re: Anyone else hate how much stupid tech they put in vehicles now?

The "screen" on the inside of my car has technical difficulties and i figure it will be too expensive to try to fix.
I don't need all of this useless technology. All it does is create issues.

With the giant screens in the middle, seems like radio, CarPlay, Navigation, etc could all run through that screen- I know it’s probably ‘safer’ to have it closer to the driver, but it just creates unnecessary repairs when the screen inevitably goes out.

Unless it doesn't, between two cars I have 11 1/2 years with two screens and no problems. Mazda and Subaru.

Can't a lot of these functions be done from the steering wheel?

I want to be the operator and drive the car. I don’t need auto pilot, i enjoy driving. I don’t want the car to fight me changing lanes without a blinker. I don’t need the parking brake to engage when on the slight incline of my driveway. The car doesn’t need to shut down at red lights. I don’t want to be dinged to death with the car telling me to put my seatbelt on. I want to be able to reverse a few feet with my driver door not fully shut. Not a fan of the electronics designed to control the car over my actions.
Can't you just...turn what you don't like off?

And WTF do i need heated/cooled seats and all this dumbass other shite for? It's just more shite to break that i cant replace.
A high school classmate got a Volvo around 1980. He said the heated seats made him fart a lot during his morning commute in Houston.
I hear you dude, so many unneeded gizmos to break, and they are made cheaply to begin with. I still don't buy that today's cars are safer than the tanks we drove decades ago, because they aren't.

I’m buying a car too and I was just saying the exact same thing. I don’t need flat screens or fancy stuff. I just want a cheap safe car.

Get the basic work truck version. No need for the bells and whistles.
This. I’m in the market for the first time in forever and realized the new silverado “customs” are usually the cheaper bare bones version. I kept seeing “custom” on the tailgate and figured that meant it’d be a lot more expensive. Got to poking around and nope

The OT claims that there are barely any real men anymore except themselves and here a lot of them are defending heated/cooled seats and Appleplay or whatever
We’re doomed

So you are saying when you have a sweaty arse when you don't have to makes you a man?

Demonstratively false.
If you want the numerous links and videos I'll pull them up.
More and better visibility, more warning sensors, and actual systems that can stop an unaware driver from an avoidable accident?
look, I used to be you, with my Luddite arse, saying "frick the technology, frick the sensors, I'm a man! I don't need all that shite!"
Then I almost ran my 7 year old son over because when I checked it was clear and when I Started backing up he was below the sight line of the window.
It takes one second. One foot. One look the wrong way.
Just the other day, there was a thread on one that happened. A man backed over his kid.
Broke my heart. This time...coulda been me.
We look through the past in a nostalgic lense.
We remember the stuff we liked.
We forget the terrible awful shite.
I forget that a friend of mine would still be here had he had something looking out to sense the guy going too fast to stop for the stop sign.
My mom's cousins and friends might not have been cut down in their prime because they didn't see one hazard coming a few seconds too late.
Now, yeah the tech may be annoying. Yeah I may have to pay more to fix it when my kid spills Powerade on it.
But it costs a lot less than fixing someone else's car.
Or a medical bill for someone's whiplash.
Or a funeral

But the safety tech? I'm all about it.
Nobody is complaining about the safety tech. It’s the excessive electronics and government-mandated drivetrain complexity that’s bothersome.
And I like to pick and choose what tech I want but automakers like to force you into expensive packages. I think most people would prefer sturdy knobs for climate control rather than have to navigate an iPad attached to the dash.

Some of them. But it’d be nice to not have to pay for these features

I think the safety shite kind of requires extensive electronics and sensors, a lot of the other controls seem mostly quality of life.

We are in agreement here. I wish vehicles were more modular letting you pick certain options like cooled seats or moon roofs or power tailgates.

I remember when I thought by blackjack and blackberry were the bees knees.
I was wrong. With some minor protective features, (Which, OT, if protective screen covers for vehicle screens aren't a thing, makes some money) I bet they could last a lot longer.
I've had far less issues with my touch screens than manual devices.

So buy a brand that doesn't make you pay to turn it off?
Who makes you pay to turn it off? I'm just dipping my toe into the possibility of getting a newer vehicle so educate me

He doesn’t want to pay for something he’s never going to use

I retired 4 yrs ago from being an auto tech. I specialized in computer diagnostics and repair of engine performance systems, anti-lock brake systems, and safety restraints-air bag systems. I also specialised in electrical work and HVAC . I did it for 40 yrs. i can only recommend making certain you spend the money on the best warranty you can afford regardless of what you buy. All of the tech will continue to grow. Running boards that extend automatically and on and on. People eat it up . It's just how it is. It is stunning.
