My doctor told me it takes two weeks for the shot to take effect and if you feel bad/sick the next couple days you were going to be sick whether you got the flu or not. Said it's an old wives tale about the flu shot making you sick.

Yep. Flu shot isn't instant protection.

I wouldn't get it if I didn't have to.

Unfortunately, in a health care setting you either get it or have to walk around with a mask on leper.

Some hospitals will just fire you if you refuse the shot. Where I work at makes you wear the mask from October until March/April. But the place I did registry work....they actually fired anyone that refused the shot without a legit medical reason to decline.

He’s taking medical advice from a medical professional. A more accurate analogy would be taking automotive advice from an ASE certified mechanic.

Got Flu Shot on August 14th. Next day, I had a sore throat. A day later, I had a mild fever. Thursday, I went to oschner and received a shot to help with the coughing and congestion.

Never had a problem with flu shot previous nine years

Get it every year, and usually have no issues. But a couple of times I developed a helluva short-term fever/chills problem a few days afterward. It's just the body reacting to the vaccine and developing antibodies.

From your friends at the CDC:

The flu shot: The viruses in the flu shot are killed (inactivated), so you cannot get the flu from a flu shot. Some minor side effects that may occur are:

Soreness, redness, or swelling where the shot was given
Fever (low grade)
Aches

My family got ours last week. No side effects. Kids didn't cry and went to gymnastics soon after. No soarness. Some people make it much more than it really is.

I had what I assume was the flu last year. It hit exactly 2 weeks after my shot. My wife and mother in law experienced the same thing. It only lasted a day or two then I was good.

But don't tell this to the rednecks who come to my clinic. They are 100% certain that the flu shot gave them the flu
