I did about 10 years ago or so. The case was about an LSU fan sticking his finger in an Alabama fans bootyhole during a pre game tailgate. We unanimously found the LSU fan to be not guilty.

I've been summoned 2 or 3 times before. Every time, it was a civil case where the attorneys ended up settling before they actually started interviewing potential jurors. We had to sit in a room for about 5-7 hours while we were being told that the lawyers were negotiating, and then we left after being told that the negotiating had been completed and there would be no trial after all.

It did give me a day off of work, but it was probably even more boring than work is.

Doing one of those 2 things (a Confederate flag shirt and Malcolm X belt buckle) might get you off the jury, but if you simultaneously do those 2 things, it would make it so obvious that you're deliberately trying to stay off the jury. The type of person who would like Malcolm X would be the last person to have a CSA shirt, and vice versa.

If you have both a Malcolm X belt buckle and Confederate flag shirt, the judge might force you to be on the jury just as a punishment for how you're so obviously trying to avoid jury service.

In 26 years of living here, I have been called for jury duty 6 times and served on 4 juries. My wife got called for Federal jury only once during that time and it got cancelled before she even had to go.

My son is only 21 and has already received 2 summons in the mail, but got out of it both times due to being in school out of state.

If I have to go, then I would rather be on a jury. Otherwise, they make you sit in a room at least until lunch, just in case they need you. And not just for one day. You have to sit there until ALL the cases for the week have juries or have been dismissed, plea deal, etc. Usually that’s about Wednesday afternoon.

I live in Massachusetts, and they must know how I’m voting…
