I've decided to embark on collecting coins with my little ones (8 & 5). Bought some used coin holder books (only cost $0.50 each) to add pennies to them. We are going to dig through their piggy banks to start. Beginning small to see if they stick with it then move up to other more expensive coins.

Yeah I do. It’s seconds and seconds of pure fun.

I do and have since age 7 or 8 when my dad got me into it. It’s a great way to learn some history.

Yup, one of three did it stick with into adulthood.

I’ve split my collection into equitable portions to each for when I check out.

I collect coins with my kid. More specifically, I confiscate his coins when I need to get a coke out the machine.

Yep. I also churn butter and play stickball with them, but only after they are done mending their shoes for the winter.

I collected them from around 8-14. Ended up with a pretty good beer fund. Wish I saved them.

I used to collect them with my dad. It was a way for us to spend time together and me teach him about us history (he's an immigrant).

Then when I was 10 we were burglarized and my 10 year old idiot self left it on the table the night before instead of putting it away like my mom asked and it was taken.

The coin shop I went to looked like a bomb went off in it. No organization at all. Coins all over the place. It was an OCD person's nightmare. Picked up some bulk pennies, 1 oz silver pieces, and 1 oz copper pieces. The kids liked the designs on the back of the latter two.

That sucks. I'm having a nice safe (AMSEC) installed tomorrow.

My old man and me collected Playboys. Well he maybe didn’t know how much research I did.

I like to keep old coins but I'm not a collector. I have three buffalo nickels that my great grandpa gave to my great uncles and grandpa when they shipped off to WWII. He figured if they owed him money they would have to come back. They all made it back and the coins went with them all through Europe and the Pacific.
