Paid cash so got a decent deal

You think this gets you a better deal? That lets everyone here know you are not not smart enough to have the money to pay cash for a vehicle.

Obviously, we didn’t get the same rebates as we would’ve if we didn’t do the 0%. But we can afford to pay more per month if we want and if you’re not paying anything in interest, it’s hard to beat that.

Please, tell me where I fricked up. First vehicle I’ve ever bought so I’m learning. We got it at a price per month we’re comfortable with to the point where we won’t be living hand to mouth every month because of a car note.

Stupidest thing I have read this week. So cash is not the best way to buy stuff.

Please explain why a dealer will give you a better deal if you pay cash as opposed to bringing in a check from your credit union.....

Yo can beat 0% if the rest of the deal required to get the 0% is shite. You have to look at everything overall, and never never never base your decision on the monthly note.

You know what you're comfortable spending per month, but that is not a number that should factor into the negotiations on a particular vehicle. By the time you're negotiating on a particular vehicle, you should already know that it is something that will fit into your budget.

With that in mind, you should then only be focused on the vehicle's price, your trade in value, and any rebates. You should also pay close attention to any bullshite fees they try to tack on above tax, title and, license.

Financing a new car wasn't my plan; I was helping him with his plan.

If he's going to put a young person in a new car, he definitely doesn't to be upside down in the car.

I stopped buying new a while back. Too much depreciation as soon as you drive it off the lot.

I've gone certified pre-owned the last 15 years.

I see 2019 F-150 King Ranches with asking prices in the low 30's. MSRP at $53K. Regardless of your thoughts on that trim it's pretty eye catching

or put down a significant down payment, get any manufacturers rebate/deals, get a good APR and come out on top (opposed to paying cash)

Meh, that's something old people just say because it used to be true. These days for most vehicles, there isn't some huge depreciation hit, and even if you believe it, if you are buying a car to keep for a long time, it doesn't matter.

Five years ago I swore I was going to buy a three or four year old truck. I searched and searched for two months. Nothing had really depreciated all that much, so I paid a few thousand more for a new one.

Saw it on Texas Direct for $34k. There’s one listed for 38K right now
