You do such a stand up job of proving the intellectual standard. Nothing screams that more than being a two bit twat/troll on a message board.

I think it's badass you take cool brain meds
These idiots have no idea how these drugs work. They take like 12 weeks to kick in but they think if you pop a pill you'll be feeling good lol
Citalopram here

Legit question.... Is clinical depression hereditary? I have zero understanding of depression because nobody in my family suffers from it. After getting married I learned that almost every women in my wife's family outside of my wife takes anti-depressants and some of the men also take them. I always assumed they were rarely prescribed because I'm ignorant in that area.
One observation I made that is likely worthless is that my family members all have hobbies and spend a ton of time outside while my wife's family goes to work, comes home, and puts on the latest episode of American Idol.

I think a large portion of susceptibility to depression/anxiety is hereditary. Not that every parent that has depression will produce children with depression, but they are more likely to develop than if both parents don't struggle.
Outside factors sometimes don't matter at all. Someone's life can be as stable and good as anyone elses, and all of a sudden their mind just changes. Normally around 22-30 is when mental challenges start presenting.
Some anecdotal evidence... my mother's father had severe depression. My mother also suffers from depression and anxiety, but manages it. My dad has some anxiety issue, but nothing too severe. In turn, around age 25 I developed anxiety and depression problems. I see a lot of my father and mother's same thinking processes in myself which helps me see them and address them.

Psychology today article addressing your question
You can find more in depth research and hypotheses with a google search, should you choose.

Your brain chemistry has changed so be very, very, very cautious with these next steps. Xanax is not anything to play with due to its potency but with the Prozac, if prescribed for depression or anxiety, go incremental in your dose reduction. Be aware of what your end game is by taking into account why you were prescribed these meds in the first place. Prayers and Blessings!

The guy who talks all big and bad online to people out of the convenience of hiding behind a username is calling somebody a butthurt pussy. I know for a fact you wouldn’t do that in person.
Sheer irony.

15 years for me, about 12 on Prozac for depression after my son’s death. Also helped with panic attacks. I’d be afraid to stop and the panic attacks would return. Those were hell.

Been on Paxil since 1993,at age 31. Let's just say my life was a hellish mixture of anxiety and depression before the SSRI was prescribed.
Tried to wean off of it in 2005, thought I no longer needed it...fell into one of the worst experiences with depression I have ever had...went back on it and have been ever since.
Has it changed me...yes, and not all of it is good. But the alternative of not treating my condition is much worse.
