Yes my aunt went to med school after being an elementary teacher for a few years. Went on to have a very successful practice.

My son-in-law just went through rotations with a 60 year old. He will be 64-65 at the end of his residency. He had spent a career at Home Depot and had always wanted to become a Dr. So he chose to pursue it after retirement. That is all I know about this late term Dr. to be.

Ralph was in my med school class - he was a Veterinarian before he went to med school. He was 40 when we graduated in 1994 and wasn't even the oldest in the class - we had a former Vanderbilt Biology Ph.D. faculty that was 50 when he graduated. Ralph did an internship, skipped residency and hung out a shingle as a GP and had what I hear was a very successful practice.

I guess it’s not really early, but 61 is when I’m cutting way back.
I like the medical part of helping solve problems, etc, but the day to day paperwork is sucking the life out of me.
So 61 is not that early, but I knew many doctors who worked well int their 70s back in the day. They were revered. That no longer exists.

I'm a few months away from finishing residency after going straight through from college and I don't think I could ever do medical school as a non-traditional. More power to those that do but the delay in getting your real life started along with the cost of med school (return on investment) is a tough sell.
