My neighborhood pub, like everyone else in TN, had to go to take out only but they can serve drinks to go as well.

I got food for two days, because they need the money, and a couple of jack & cokes (styrofoam cup, lid and straw), because I like Jack & Coke.

I tipped more than normal because I want them open when this off-season from hell ends.

That’s the thing. If you truly value these business then continue ordering from them. I was in the industry for a long time and there aren’t many restaurants who can live through zero income for multiple months.

They all need our help right now.

I tip at least 20% now...just like I would if I dined in.

I'm very grateful I have job security. I can afford to help out the restaurants I love and their staff by giving them business and tipping decently to staff.

If it is a restaurant that I would normally sit down & order drinks, I'm tipping 20% on the take out. The bill ends us less than a normal b/c we didn't buy those drinks. These places need all the help they can get right now.

Vincent’s in Metairie is putting a 15% “Service Charge” on every order. I probably would have given them 20%, but got a free beer!

Yes. You should tip on takeout all the time. Maybe not 20%, but 10 to 15% on a normal day. They still have to gather your food, make sure it’s correct, pack it all up, provide utensils, etc. During COVID 19, tip 20%. The servers need $ just as much or more than the business owners.

Usually tip to-go at 15%, but now tipping 20%. Happy to do so. I want my peeps to make it. There is a lot of out of town business that won’t bother with driving to town for take out, so I really fear for how much us locals can realistically support them now, but we are trying.

I have duentoceeve been trying to use local places when we do eat out. We’re personally not affected pay wise so I figure if i can I should be nice to local businesses for good food and good service. Even in a pick up line.

You’ll be the very one bitching when you’re favorite restaurant is no longer in business after this

Sure. A brand new “trendy” restaurant will replace and just like the industry average it will be gone in less than 2 years. Then a new one will replace it and just like that it’ll be gone. And that cycle will continue until that location gets a certain reputation and then no restauranteur will want to touch it.

Good job contributing to the downfall of an industry in your area. You should be so proud

Not in WA. Servers, hosts, bartenders, etc all make $13.50 an hour. That’s our minimum wage and there is no reducing it for workers who make tips. I only tip 10% at most even when sitting down and eating now. Sure as shite not tipping a high school kid to hand me a bag of food someone else made
