Your mom. On a pole.

USA Swimming meets say hold my beer. I always said let me die on a swim meet day because those things never end.

Was waiting for this response. Was going to point out no poles dance.

8-9 year old softball is pretty entertaining. You never know what’s going to happen, you just know it won’t be a clean play

When my daughters first started, the recital was finished within 2 hours. By the time they finished, it had grown to 4 AGONIZING hours.
With respect to the parents and dancers, younger kids motor skills are still developing, meaning the number of steps or moves they could learn is/was limited. So after a while, it was the same old same old year after year after year.
The last I heard, from a coworker whose daughter was still in it with the same teacher/leader, the recital had grown to 2 NIGHTS. And her daughter had dances or performances on both nights.
As much as I love my daughters, subjecting parents to 2 nights constitutes cruel and unusual punishment. I think I would have staged a revolution or insurrection.

Last weekend. But the dance company that teaches my daughter has it down to a science. 1:10 with intermission.

But you can root for his teammates at a track meet…
After one recital for my little sister I skipped out on the next to watch LSU baseball in the Super Regional that night… my niece and nephew (yes, a boy, he’s 3) had a recital add danced like two numbers in an hours long event…
It’s not that I wouldn’t watch a kid I know there, it’s that I’m not interested in watching everyone else’s kids

I have seen the Wizard of Oz 11 times.
No more!

I mean if you have multiple kids that span the two age groups. We have just one and meets are 3-4 hours. And there are only a few during the season.
I’ll take that over any other activity.

Going to a dance recital ranks somewhere between having a tooth drilled and dropping a concrete block on my foot.

Had ours last weekend - 4th year

I'll go toe to toe who have been to more.
My daughter’s 16th (and last) recital is next weekend, yes, 16 years.
Plus for the last 8 years, she has had dance team recitals in January. Plus for the last 8 years, she’s had 6-7 dance competitions.
Plus, for two years, she was on the high school dance team, so about 6 home games a year, plus Disney competition.

Enjoy it while it last. They won’t be so innocent in a year or two

Oh, and don't forget Nutcracker and The Grinch Stole Christmas around the holidays. But I will admit it does teach these girls some style and grace, if they adhere to it.

The small bottles of Jack Daniel’s easily mix with coke during dance recitals. I sneak them in every year; it helps.

When I ruptured my Achilles, at a gymnastics competition when I was 17, I had to wait hours for my Mom to show up (1999, so no cell phone). If I wasn't actually competing i.e. warming up for competition, she wasn't watching.
