I like living in California for the most part. I live in Alameda which is the East Bay of SF. The cost of living should scare you. If you make any less than 100K a year expect to be "poor" by southern standards. You will not be able to afford a home here and expect to pay very high rents. All that being said, the weather is wonderful, the population is diverse, the countryside is unbelievably beautiful, the produce is amazing and cheap, and there is always something going on within a short drive.

Sounds like my experience as well.

cali is not overly expensive at all. its all about location. and jobs are everywhere. look on craigslist you will see plenty of jobs. or you could grow weed and make a 500,000 a year pretty easily

I am not sure if you are joking or not. But you are so wrong.

I bet you are one of the people I see around in LSU garb....so many tiger fans out here

Seriously though, its almost worth being "poor" to live on this island.

Also live in Bay Area (South Bay) and the thought of making 100k and not able to afford a house is so true. Compared to my friend in LA I feel rich but here I feel poor lol.

I think I see more Bama fans than LSU fans here.

I lived there for 6 months in 2008. Aside from the taxes and the cost of living (which I didn't have to deal with) it is really a fine place to live.

I'm fond of saying that people who hate the West Coast (from San Diego to Seattle) have never been there.

Yep. Strange that so many here think they'd dislike because it is too liberal yet they've never been there. Wonder what they think liberals (or moderates for that matter) feel when living in AL, LA, MS ? Diversity of opinion is a good thing IMO. Pretty boring when everyone thinks the same way.

OP, congrats and move there. You'll love it!

People here think the same about ppl in Texas, Louisiana, Miss, and Bama. They think southerners are backwards and they would hate it.
