It’s a shithole. Its crime rate is one of the two cities in Illinois to have a higher crime rate than Chicago.
There are car factories there.
I know white suburban kids who grew up outside of it and they are all very.... traditional midwestern.

I used to play soccer tournaments there the whole time. It’s far enough from Chicago that it’s not really a suburb but it has the same feel as a suburb. I never felt in danger there although there were some high crime areas.

I think Cheap Trick was from Rockford. It’s on the Rock River. Pretty little oasis in the middle of the endless cornfield.
