Had mine removed 7 years ago due to growth on both sides. The growth was pushing on my esophagus causing me to have a cough that wouldn't go away. Growth turned out to be none cancerous. Took a year to get my hormone levels right and feel like a new person. Looking back after getting my levels right, it was a few years of feeling no energy and weight gain that i couldn't get rid off. Also with bloodwork figured out my testosterone was low, fixing that was another big difference in my health.

Diagnosed with hypothyroidism back in like 2016. My doctor found out doing bloodwork during fertility treatments. I didn't realize I had a problem but when I started the medicine I lost a decent amount of weight without changing a thing and felt less tired all the time.

Things that have not changed, intolerance to cold. I am freezing all the time.

I was hyperthyroid at age 25. I also had an optic nerve that had compression (my term) and every time I had a new eye doctor they thought I had a brain tumor. At age 35, I started having rampant headaches and I was diagnosed with pseudotumour cerebri (brain pressures up as it would with a tumor, but there is no actual tumor).

During the course of that treatment, I started having Graves related eye issues. They have continued since that time (30 years ago). Most of the time my eyes don't have any issue other than dryness. I have had a couple of bouts of double visions combined with light sensitivity (went away with thyroid level management). I also have had a few issues where my eyes (mostly the right eye) don't track well (which is happening now). I'm going to get an infusion of Tepezza, which is for thyroid eye disease stemming from Graves.

While checking on the new thyroid eye disease issues, I had an MRI that revealed a benign, suprasellar meningioma (brain tumor) that is growing. It is between the optic nerve and pituitary gland. It gets to stay put until it grows to the point where it is interfering with either the optic nerve or pituitary gland. I have headaches almost every day (and I'm used to them so they don't usually bother me).

Agreed. Something something a pound of cure.

I'm blessed with insurance that covers preventative scans. Been thinking about getting a full MRI done to screen for any issues. Not even sure how it works, but it's free so why not?

I had Hashimoto’s disease 3 years ago at 61 that has evolved into Grave’s disease. My mother got Graves’ disease in her 30’s and my daughter got it at 18. Both had their thyroid destroyed with radioactive iodine. My sister-in-law had thyroid cancer and had the gland surgically removed.

I never knew I had a problem until routine bloodwork revealed low hormone levels. I’ve also been diagnosed with a nodule. I don’t think I ever exhibited any of the usual symptoms of Hashimotos or Graves’ disease. My hormone levels are fine now with 5 MG of methamizole daily.

I haven’t been to the doctor in 10 years or so. Every now and then in the mornings, I couldn’t get out of bed. My muscles were super tight and my body ached. It would normally last an hour or so but the last time, I woke up at 11pm and it took til 530am for me to get up and walk without help.

Went to the doctor that morning and they drew blood and found out I have hyperthyroidism. Then found out a week or so later that I also have Graves’ disease.

Had an ultrasound done on my thyroid and they found a mass on one side and nodule on the other. Doctor said they are small enough he’s not doing a biopsy on them.

Also found out I’m diabetic, a1c is 7.0. Since they put me on thyroid meds, I’ve gained 13lbs in two months.

From a surgical perspective that can be a reasonably easy procedure to ann infuriating and mind numbingly long and boring one.

That aggressive of thyroid cancer is very unusual (getting to the cords is not easy normally speaking). There’s lots of other non cancer reasons that could happen to them but they still need to have it checked.

Put it to them this way -“ yeah no one likes to go to the doctor. Do you like waiting/worrying on a potential cancer more?”

My wife came down with hyperthyroidism about 20 years ago. She was losing weight and hyper all the time, even more so than normal.

One night I was lying next to her in bed and put my arm across her chest to kiss her goodnight and I noticed her heartbeat was pretty fast. I timed it and at rest it was over 120 beats per minute. She made an appointment with my Dr. of internal medicine and they confirmed hyperthyroidism and put her on medication and eventually nuked her thyroid to kill it because it was out of control.

She was told if they didn't do something, she was probably going to have to deal with Grave's Disease, the same thing that Marty Feldman had that messed up his eyes and made them bulge like they did. Luckily, that never happened.

She is still on the meds to keep things under control.

Hypothyroidism diagnosed in 2017. Never had any symptoms I would have complained about, but mentioned family history to my doctor during my first ever wellness visit at age 52 so he tested for TSH and I was high.

Two of my sisters had thyroid cancer, one at about age 18 and another about age 57, she was hypothyroid. Younger sister has hypothyroidism. My mother has a nodule on her thyroid they have been monitoring for a few years.

My hair has been falling out since college. I was always a weight gainer, though I have managed to be thin for a few years at a time at various times during my life, I was very fatigued at the time but I thought it was lingering affects from back surgery years ago, I would have never complained about it.

I am at a very high dose of Synthroid. It never really made a difference in how I felt. What did make a difference was a few years ago when I started taking supplements and then later when I returned to a low carb diet. Even with the Syntroid, and despite a marked decrease in appetite these last few years, I never lost any weight until I returned to low carb. If someone complaining of tiredness and pain asked my opinion, I would tell them to start with low carb. Also note, weight loss now is slooooow. I have been on low carb for a year. 13 years ago I lost more weight in half the time while being less strict, but unfortunately I broke discipline after my father died and gained everything back plus more.

I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer last week. Waiting for results as I type this.

Surgery to remove thyroid and tumor this Friday. As of now we’re praying for best and that it’s not the aggressive type.

Have had hypothyroidism since 2003 after my first kid was born. First symptoms were being SUPER tired, cold no matter what, and hair falling out. Been on levothyroxine for 22 years now and have to get blood checked twice a year to make sure T4 levels are within normal range.
