Prices are going up because the Ukrainians blew up that bridge in Crimea.

what’s the point of crawfish if shrimp per pound is similar or cheaper and have more meat?

how is it cheaper?

The cheapest ones you can get on Cajun Grocer raw is $50.85 for 5 pounds.

Just trying to figure out had bad we'll be price gouged this season.

Restaurants and suppliers for live sellout like crazy, especially on weekends. Midland, TX has boiled crawfish trailers selling out at $8-10/lb boiled Friday-Sunday.

"Price gouged" would be upping the price intentionally because people must have it, like gasoline or water after a hurricane in August. People can eat other foods, but they still choose to pay whatever the asking price is for crawfish every damn year.

There's a lot more meat in a pound of shrimp vs a pound of crawfish.
I'd estimate crawfish heads account for 40% of the weight that you're paying for when buying a sack.

ahead and buy that $10 a pound crawfish so they’ll never drop the price.

This is the problem. The can sell to Texas vendors for high $$$ and these people eat it up

You didn't hear. El nino is coming, gas is in short supply, there was to much water one week and not enough the next, and factor in inflation.

Which equals.

Crawfish prices are fricked.

this seems to have completely lost its meaning

Crawfish prices are screwed because people, like my family, moved from LA to Houston and got the entire city hook on it. Growing up we would do crawfish boils and half the people wouldn't eat them or it was the first time they had seen crawfish, now seeming every restaurant/bar in the city has boils.

So your family is single-handedly responsible for the popularity of crawfish in Texas? Bold claim.

They’ll be short in supply and prices will be high. Farmers will be lucky to make any money even with the higher prices.

The supply shortage is due to weather being too hot, dry, cold or wet.
