We had a pet squirrel in the house in a largish cage for 9 years while I was growing up.

We loved her and it was certainly unique to have a pet squirrel, but squirrels are too instinctual and do not make great domesticated pets.


They are smart and very affectionate...9 years in a cage is like prison for any animal. It would be better to have let her go and let nature take it's course... it might have been adopted by another mother squirrel who lost her young.
