I have an '06 XC90, IT has been a good car.
Ford owned Volvo from 1999-2009 so there is that.
A China company picked them up in 2009 and owns them now, I think. I hear good things about the new 4 cyl. engine but I can help but think of those Chinese ATV's.

The only thing Chinese about the new XC90 is the money spent to engineer it... In Sweden. I think Ford was a much worse steward of that company than the Chinese will be, and I'm a ford fan.

My wife's RX is nice enough, though it drives like a tractor compared to my cayenne. I think it's weird that they won't put a 3rd row in the new RX, even though it shares a platform with the highlander which does have a 3rd row. Also the new 2016 has some "polarizing" looks. Of those 3 I would pick the GLE. Still like the Volvo more.

On average, how much did the 2016 XC90 go up in price over the 2015 and earlier. It sure seems like the prices are much higher.

A whole, whole lot. They went way upmarket. They're barely the same vehicle.

. My wife's entire family swears by Volvo. My father-in-law always says that he has two Volvos with over 300k miles. I laugh at him because he probably has about $30,000 of repairs in both of those cars.

Base MSRP is $48k. A quick Google search tells me the 2014 started at $39,700

We have owned a couple of them, not a single issue except for the T6 transmission was a turd. That would be a GM problem and not so much a Volvo problem. Right now our runners at the office drive one. They drive it hard all day on Baton Rouge surface streets. I haven't looked in a while but it's got to be close to 300k miles and it still does 19mpg around town.

I use to tow my skiff with one, pulled great and still got nearly 20mpg pulling the boat.

As soon as the warranty is up on my land rover I will be back in an XC90 as a daily driver.

I think they are going to come out with a 3 row RX model in the fall of '16 as a 2017 model. There were some spy shots of one.

No way a Volvo is better quality or safer than a Ford these days.

I suspect the cost of ownership of a Ford or GM is much lower than a Volvo.

I was dead set on buying the new one as soon as it was introduced a year ago, but at the last minute we went with infiniti. Compared to an infiniti, the Volvo costs more to perform preventative maintenance items. Geely the Chinese car company bought volvo to get them to design and make cars in china, but they are supposed to leave the Sweden plants alone. Geely is basically Volvo's bank.

Unless it's Japanese, I would buy an extended warranty if you plan to keep it more than five years.

The new xc90 is the direction Volvo is heading with all of their cars. The cost of the car is rising dramatically to cover the tech features and the plush interiors. The engine is a breakthrough but consumer reports states that it sounds gritty and not smooth like a luxury car. Volvo is trying to compete with the Germans and become a luxury brand.

It's funny I was dead set on an Infiniti until we test drove the xc60.... We really liked the qx50 but it was just too small and impractical as a suv/crossover and the qx60 and 70 was too big and more than we wanted to spend.
