Anybody been to Ryman Theatre (Grand Ole Opry) for a show?

Is it worth 60 bucks a ticket? Consider taking the family while visiting family in Nashville area?

My family went during the summer and had a great time. One night Garth brooks and Trisha year wood made a special appearance. As expected the crowd went nuts
I hear it's pretty common for big name singers to randomly show up and play a few of their songs

The Opry is at the Opry House. The Ryman is the old location. It's still a concert venue, but not the Opry.

That really depends. The room works well for stage/theater non musical performances as well as lighter/acoustic based acts. Loud rock shows tend not to work as well there because the room is so live and it is hard to push a PA in there and get it to cooperate.

The only tickets are are not all the way to the side are the very back of the balcony or the back of the floor level. Should I go balcony or floor?

Absolutely. It's a beautiful, classic venue and the sound is great IMO. If you get the opportunity and you enjoy country music (especially it's history) take the tour as well.

I went to Ryman the year before the Grand Old Opry moved out and saw the show.

Just saw Jason Isbell there twice. It's the best venue I've ever had the joy of seeing a show in.

Went last year while on vacation in nashville. It's a really cool place. The performers only do like 3 songs each and they like to mix old and new. We saw Darius Rucker, Thomas Rhett and a few who were probably in their 70s.
If you're going to be in nashville. Do the tours you can tour the opry and the old ryman auditorium. As well as the country music hall of fame. Studio B, where a lot of the legends recorded. Also, if anyone in your family is into the show nashville, they do a tour of the filming locations.

Depends on the lineup.
I hated it. Saw it at the old location. Little Jimmy Dickens (RIP) doing his hit from 1948 and it went down hill from there.
We were with a work convention on a bus and couldn't leave and were trapped with no alcohol. Just awful.

Been to the Ryman for many shows but never attended an Opry. Great venue. Cozy and very cool. Every one I know that's attended an Opry has really enjoyed it. Do it.

It's a place that you should see at least one concert at. Incredible venue with lots of history.

Either get tickets on the first floor in front of the balcony, or on the second floor balcony. You don't want to be under the balcony unless you like watching the artist's feet. Best seat are fist row balcony.

The Ryman on Briadway is the best indoor venue on Earth.

The Ryman is one of the better venues I've been to. That said, it has seating that obstructs your view. I saw Tame Impala recently and sat at the very back on the main level. The balcony hangs over and really, really makes it difficult to see the stage. They've also got seats that sit you behind the columns supporting the balcony.
Grand Ole Opry is cool as well. It's just kinda way on out there in East Nashville by the outlet mall and hotel. I saw Railroad Earth with Warren Haynes recently. Great show and venue, but it isn't The Ryman Auditorium.
