You can tell who doesn't have kids in this thread.
We just started letting our 3 year old use a tablet. They use them extensively in the pre-K class they are going to start in a month. Our kid is limited to 4 hrs a week on it; they also have to know how to use one or they will fall behind at school.

My youngest benefitted greatly from games and such that helped her read and learn math. She's waay ahead of her classmates.
Like any tool or toy, parental involvement is the key for it being productive or entertainment, not that there's really anything wrong with either
Agreed. I have twin 10 yr old girls and they both tested at 6th grade level in math last year. I think the math games and assignments that they do on their iPads help tremendously. We have rules about what they can use them for, what time they have to be turned off etc. I think they can be a great tool for a kid that age.

But it's a good item to teach them responsibility.
Absolutely.

My kids have the kindles thy only allow them to download kids content. They're gotten pretty good at doing the puzzles and matching games on them. We try to only let them use them 2-3 times a week for no more than a hour or so each time

"The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends no screen-time for children under two and a maximum two hours a day thereafter. This is not just due to a proven link between screen-time and attention disorders, but because it eliminates other activities essential for building healthy bodies and brains."

Buy $50 worth of books. It's a fricking toddler. It doesn't need a tablet.

Leap pad platinum. Only educational games available and no internet connectivity. Limit screen time. It's foolish to not allow children to develop technologically. Schools are foregoing books...wake up, they will need to navigate tablets by 1st grade.
