All the extra shite you see on the fancy ones break, and who's showing off their washing machine? You have yours in the middle of the living room or on the front porch? When we moved into our house 13 years we ago we bought the washer, a few years later we bought the dryer. In that time my sister in law has been through 2 front load washing machines, she just bought a Speed Queen set about 3 months and loves that it actually works.

I bought in to the Speed Queen hype after the flood when i got new stuff. They are truly remarkable machines. 25 minute loads. No water efficiency, energy crap that takes an hour plus per load. The speed queen is heavy and durable. It's guaranteed to last 25 years. I hate to sound like a broken record but it truly is the best there is.

I got a SQ after my HE washer died a few months ago.

Pros:
-I takes 20 minutes to wash a load, instead of an hour
-You can open the lid to add more clothes without having to wait for the drum to stop spinning because no lid lock

Cons:
The SQ was kinda expensive but I don't expect to need to replace it for a long time so no biggie

the only thing better than a new speed queen is a used direct-drive washer you can buy off craigslist for $100.

after doing the legwork, i'm on board the napoleon direct-drive train.

your choice, $1000 for 'runner up' speed queen, or $100 for 'top choice' direct drive machine.

direct drive washers were made by whirlpool from like 1990-2010 so there are shittons of them out there. look up 'kenmore series 80 or 90' or whirlpool and you'll find them all over the place.

From the great Napoleon:

quote:

I sell old units as a side gig. I may sell 1-2 a week. I have a really hard time selling anything made before 2002.
Sadly laundry tech peaked at that time. Post energy star timers and controls suck arse.

I can make a 1990's Kenmore or Maytag set last forever with a really good shot of preventive maintenance.
The ones from the 80's are even better. It's just people want to buy based off of looks.

END OF THREAD MOTHERfrickERS

My LG front load washer and dryer are direct drive and I havent had any probelms other than the bus bar melting on the dryer in 10 years. Just had to rewire it which was no big deal. I 100% will try to go direct drive when I finally do have to replace it.

If it ain't broke...

I'm about to buy a new SQ and I'm keeping the dryer that's been in the house for 20 years.

We do not care that they do not "match."

It's a fricking washer/dryer. It's not a luxury item. The goal is to put dirty clothes in and get clean clothes out consistently for a long time, right?

These companies rely on stupid gimmicks such as electronics and useless fluff to reel in uneducated consumers.

These products have calculator quality chip boards in an appliance that has no need for electronics. If you make the mistake of buying one because it "looks cool" then that's on you

like napoleon said, the worst idea in the last 50 years to come out is putting a microchip board on a machine that bangs clothes around and vibrates constantly

its not a matter of if but when the solders will come loose or other electronics fail.

ITS CALLED A CLICK DIAL, ITS MECHANICAL, ITS WORKED ON WASHERS LIKE A CHAMP FOR 100 YEARS AND ITS A BEAUTIFUL THING

just because you CAN make something digital doesn't mean you SHOULD
