they want your data
They can have my data, I just want to feel like myself again.

There's also this - qEEG
Curious as to what our doc thinks of this. Had a patient that had it done at one point.

Reassuring is up to you. I’m just explaining that everyone in genetics/genomics is more interested in gathering data than getting paid on an individual case level. Not your data specifically, just growing their database for their partners testing various therapies and whatnot. They don’t care about you in any nefarious way, they are just all looking to be purchased by a bigger fish, and that only happens when you have more samples in your data set. They want to help you out financially is the short answer, it’s in their best interest.

It might be his time of the month.
There is the scruffy I remember so fondly.

Probably can’t help you out.
I don’t see adults right now. Trying to help as many kids as possible to get better and avoid being lifelong psychiatric patients.

a saliva test that is supposed to be able determine the right medicine
If there are traces of semen in their saliva just prescribe them Midol and be done with it.

Thanks for what you do. I’ve had a deep dive into these specific tests lately and I feel like the price point of pcr makes for a ton of mom n pops in this space. I don’t envy you having to pick out the right company. The test is absolutely necessary, however, and will only get better these next few years.

The weirdest thing was when she tried a new medicine that improved her mood practically overnight. For about three weeks she was completely back to her old self, then she cratered and was worse than before. Depression is hell.
I am not at all knowledgable on this topic, but my neighbor's daughter had a similar experience. Well, she had to go into a state run mental institution and she would be given a certain type of medicine that would work for a few weeks then just stop.
But then she got to the point where she was only getting worse. They took her out and brought her to a private doctor.. Who told them that part of the problem was that as soon as the meds she was on at the time, stopped working, they instantly put her on something else.. She should have been "weened" off of one medication before taking something else and the fact she wasn't, was making her worse.
But you are right, depression is nothing to mess around with.

Pharmacogenomic testing.
That sounds like it is very sketchy.
There is no telling where this will go or who will misuse the genetic results.
This will give me something to research tonight.

The problem with psychiatry is that they ask a lot of questions that no one in their right mind would want to answer. So, in one respect, maybe testing would help if it avoids all the questioning.

Maybe they ask them so that if that person does answer, they know they are not in their right mind.

I had a counselor trick me into going to the hospital. I was seeing, basically forced to see, a counselor. I was very upset one day and told her that my feet and hands were tingling, so she drives me over to an ER in Dallas (and it wasn't any ER I would ever go to if I was the decision maker).
When I was talking to the doctor in the ER, he asked what was going on and I told him that one thing was that my farm truck was having a problem with people interfering with it (which was true). He asked "How?" and I said "I don't know, probably radio or electrical energy of some kind." So, the doctor said "watch it, that kind of talk will get you upstairs (the psych ward)." I didn't like the implication, and I was telling the truth about what was happening, but next thing I know I'm going upstairs (they kind of force you to consent).
I get out, and guess what? Truck still is being f'd with.
I got misdiagnosed and some medicine that didn't work. Risperidal? No f'ing thanks.

You're lucky. Most people are still on that floor after they get taken up.

I had a genetic test done with my saliva through my GP. It's goal was to see how your body metabolized different medications for different medical problems to determine which drug would likely work best for you. None of these conditions were psych, though. It was stuff like BP, cholesterol, etc.

I was up there for three days, maybe four.
I was very glad to get out
I was required to do group, which basically sucked. It was pretty clear that several of the people there had been there before.
Unless I'm suicidal (which I'm not and have never been), there is no right to keep me anywhere.
Some of the people were nice.

I hear they try to indoctrinate you and trick you into thinking you're sick so they can keep you up there. Did you see that at all?

Not really, but I was very focused on getting out. It was a miserable place and I am still mad that I was put in psych jail. I was very good because I wanted out. I got out, threw all the medicine they gave me in the trash (except I might still have the Risperidal).
I will say this, they do not like people who know exactly what is going on. But, I've learned it is often better to shut up about it, especially when mental health professionals are around. That was the lesson I learned from my visit.
