And if you go to the 'talent agency' for an interview and there is a stained, black leather couch in the room...run!

Or if the agent's office is in Northridge or Van Nuys.

If you move out here and want to get into the film industry, regardless of what area, I would recommend that you try to get a job at one of the talent agencies. Lots of work in the film industry will ask for agency experience. If you can do that and stick it out for a couple of years, that should help.

thanks

Not for a young person. As long as you can get a roomate, you can live there making $50k. You aren't balling, but you can make it.

You must have missed the part where I said to live alone.

I did. Living alone would be tough at anything under $100k. They rape you on State income tax as well (I was paying 12% just to the shitty broke state of Ca)

I live in Napa about 10 days a month. It's super expensive, and the housing and taxes are pretty steep. The weather is perfect though, and the food and culture are outstanding. The people seems very nice, but most of my friends are transplants from the south, all SEC grads who moved there, mostly for the wine business.

Waaaaay better than Alexandria.

speaking of the adult industry...

there is a website that does high-quality adult "entertainment" that i have accidentally clicked on and watched copious amounts of film. a lot of public stuff, and more often than not filmed at unmistakable landmarks here in town - the parking garage at scottsdale fashion, that tunnel under camelback that connects biltmore fashion and the office buildings, and other stuff that looks like scottsdale/PV. i know the casting couch . com operation is here (or at least used to be) but there is another that films in broad daylight in lots of high-traffic areas.

Alexa lives in the Bay Area. She loves it.

eta: she pays $2200 for a 700 sqft one bedroom about 20 minutes south of SF

Thanks man. I can take a guess based off your username, but I think congratulations are due to you as well on the marriage (I'm hoping I have the right person)...

Every city is different in California, but I find people in California to be generally pretty friendly.

Bay Area is crazy expensive and not for everyone. Living IN SF is definitely not for everyone. I've lived here for 15 years and about at the point where I could move away and be ok with it. But there are cities (Marin County, parts of the Peninsula and east bay) in the Bay Area that don't have all the insanity associated with SF itself.

I lived in Sacramento for a year and loved it. Had a nice combination of city-type stuff do as far as theaters, arts, etc., but is a smaller city than most, so the hassles of parking, home buying made it much more affordable and pleasant. And it's a lot warmer than other CA cities.

Most jobs in the area are associated with government or nearby universities, but there is a tech culture in nearby Folsom, CA which is nearby.

Good luck, wherever you land.

I will be supporting myself. I was thiking about the SFPD. 70000 starting salary is pretty good.

Not if you planning on living alone in sf, and you couldn't even dream of buying a house in a decent area with a hundred miles. You would need to be making 100k+ to live semi comfortably and would either need multiple incomes or a very very large salary to think of buying a house in sf. 70k is medium to low end salary with all the tech jobs in the area

If cost of living was affordable and laws weren't as restrictive, I'd move there in a fricking heartbeat.

Right now, it's a great place to visit and have fun but stressful to live comfortably if you don't have a good gig going on.

black gangs, asian gangs, obnoxious gays, earthquakes, wildfires, bad governing, "noon" nfl games are 10am out there, no drive through daquairi, have to live up north for river/creek fishing.....,! but hey, its a big arse state and you can get around all of that.
