I live in sf and have been here for 15 years now. It's an amazing place and yes, expensive. I do believe compensation offsets that for professionals - but it's hard starting out here or as any lower wage earner. We're thinking of moving to Sonoma if I can figure out the commute/work from home thing. Generally, the weather is amazing - except off some fog in the city. At this point, I'm not sure where else we could live if we moved to get the same quality.

Napa is not nearly as expensive. It's a great place to live if you're in the wine or hospitality industry.

No special deal. I live in a 1400 sq ft house that is a 6 minute walk from downtown napa.

That sounds like a great place to be but I am going to move back to L.A. soon. San Diego is nicer but L.A. is filled with people I love and for some reason the city inspires me. It's ALL about where you live in L.A. though. I would never live there unless I could afford to live where I want to!

It's all about personal taste and what you're looking for in life. California is great because it offers a wide variety of opportunities to a large number of people. You really can't go wrong with any of these locations (LA, SF, SD) depending on your needs. Still think this state is one of the better places to live even though I don't agree with the politics here.

Does not compute

If you live right in SF, the weather is pretty shitty. You can only count on October being really nice it seems. I lived in SF for 5 years and I really enjoyed it though.

I also lived in L.A. for about 5 years. I moved here to Hawaii and have been here for almost 10 years. I have thought about moving back to Cali and miss SF, but I don't miss the weather.

OP, I worked in the film industry. It's a tough business. Unless you're a good writer or actor, you're going to work a shite ton of hours below the line and not make much money. Do you know anyone in the industry?

I've spent some time in South Lake Tahoe. Love it there. If it wasn't for family, I would live in northern Cali.
