Not for a young person. As long as you can get a roomate, you can live there making $50k. You aren't balling, but you can make it.

Anyone here lived in New York?

Cali people are eleventy billion times more friendly than New Yorkers. I've lived in both places.

I know this is stupid, but I base cool places to live after tv shows. New York looked cool after Seinfeld and Friends, Los Angeles after Entourage and Southland, and Miami after Dexter
Miami looked really cool too.

Same here.

California is a huuuuge place and has a lot of diversity. Your experience in one city may vary dramatically from another. Some places, it's not all that expensive to live.

Or Oxnard or Ventura. I thought those were 310s and not 805s over there.

Not exactly that far I live in Oxnard. I'm a full time student and I work at the local bases.

I live in San Diego. Expensive but hard as hell to leave because it is awesome here.

UCSD is not bad but mostly a commuter school. If I was back in school I would go to UCLA. Killer campus and hot chicks.

What do you want to do in the film industry and do you know anybody in the area where you want to work? I live in L.A. It's really big and spread out, expensive (but not as bad as San Fran), pretty good weather most of the year.

Wherever you go, join the local LSU Alumni Assoc. It will be a great way for you to meet people out here.

If you move out here and want to get into the film industry, regardless of what area, I would recommend that you try to get a job at one of the talent agencies. Lots of work in the film industry will ask for agency experience. If you can do that and stick it out for a couple of years, that should help.

Good luck!!

And if you go to the 'talent agency' for an interview and there is a stained, black leather couch in the room...run!
