The reason this is popping up more often now is because in the past older dentists and hygienists didn’t treat it correctly and it has become one of the biggest lawsuits in the dental world. Patients lose teeth etc and sue their older dentist who just gave them regular cleanings when they find out they have perio disease that could have prevented a lot of issues and they knew nothing about it. And if perio charting isn’t done or it was done and srp wasn’t prescribed then it’s an easy lawsuit against the dentist.
I’d bet most people who said they were going to a dentist for years then changed and had this happen we’re going to an older dentist/hygienist. For people who refuse it, you are just making more money for your dentist/periodontist down the road when they have to fix things.

Similar situation to me.
The hygienist and "office manager" are both hot and try to up-sell me the whole time. The dentist is a cool guy and I told him I don't enjoy that shite every time I come in and it has stopped. I think they made a note in my file to leave me alone

Although they do call and ask me to schedule a deep cleaning a lot. I just ignore the number now. My teeth are clean and healthy.

I had to do this as well when I refused to get the deep clean because my measurements were slightly too high.
Obviously a scare tactic.
They went ahead with the normal clean and polish. The dentist said I don't need any fillings and everything else looked great.

Periodontal disease can be genetic. I've had a deep cleaning done once. They did the left side first then the right side a couple of months later. It wasn't fun but it wasn't that bad. The worst part was getting the injections to numb my mouth. It's true that there is a good bit of blood and your gums are sore for a day or so.

Yeah I'm thinking it is bullshite. The one tooth the gum does get messed with more because the crown on it doesn't fit perfectly and has gap between other tooth. My gums don't bleed etc. Only switched because previous dentist wasn't in network so we were having to pay some for cleanings etc. This new one said I could get a second opinion with periodontist if I wanted.

For me though, I was one level too high in my "measurements". Not in the danger zone and not unhealthy, but they warned if I didn't do some intense bacterial treatment it could get into the bad zone. $800.
Other than that my teeth and gums were perfect.
I'm 31. By the time my teeth are so old that they're falling out they'll have some crazy new procedure to get new teeth or something. My mom and dad have great teeth and are near 70 and these things are largely genetic.

Not a scare tactic it’s a legal issue so you can’t sue the dentist when your perio disease worsens and you decide to try and say the dentist never told you about it.

at first i thought it was a scam, but in retrospect, my mouth has been healthier and cleaner since i've had it done.
my dentist also did an irrigation in which antibiotics are used deep in the gums.
to those guys saying your teeth are fine, it has nothing to do with teeth. it's all about the gums.

Just an update...went and saw a specialist today for a second opinion....NO GUM DISEASE! He said I have a couple of spots that look to get irritated at times due to the crowns on the teeth. Nothing serious.

She's scamming you. Floss 2 times a day for a couple of weeks, and rinse with some mouthwash and they'll be back to normal.
EDIT - "Scam" may not be a fair word. I've had my gums measure that high before, and both times I've done the above and they were back to normal in a couple of weeks. They said to try that before doing a deep cleaning both times. They also gave me this little gum massager that is awesome. I use it all the time.
