You are exactly correct. There is no scenario where whole life is a good product for the insured. There is a reason the insurance company pushes it.

I was in the KCs for about two years and when I decided not to renew my membership I was called by a health insurance seller who sells to KC members and after telling him no I wasn't interested he said he wanted to come talk to me in person. I told him he is welcome to waste his time but I am not going to renew my membership and I am not buying insurance.
Dude comes to my house one evening. For 45 mins tried to get me to buy then he got mad and said "I drove all the way from Lafayette for you to not even be interested?". I asked if he thought I was bluffing when i said I wasn't buying it. Dude stormed out of my house..
Good luck

To sell life insurance you have to "back the hearse up to the front door".
You have to paint that picture of gloom and doom.
The best place to sell insurance is at house that had had a recent death. Especially if the deceased was uninsured, and the head of household laid out for final expenses. Every adult in that house is buying insurance, whether they want it not.
Insurance is a very hard sell these days. People are bombarded with commercials, mailers, and cold callers. They really are tired of hearing about it.
A lot of people have everything bundled with one agent. Home, car, life, the whole shot.
Some rely strictly on the insurance provided by their employer. Which is just about enough to cover final expenses. People simply don't plan very well.

I had opportunities, but didn't get into it because I didn't want to prey on all of my friends and relatives. I think anyone starting out has to do that.
I did buy my 1st life insurance policy from a frat brother in 1983. He took me to lunch and just gave me info to look at. I called him back to start it up. Several other of my brothers kept had called me asking when we could get together to talk about insurance. I am still avoiding them.

Long time ago when I was young and stupid thinking it’d be an easy way to make some money. This is of course pre-internet days, yeah it was that long ago.
Church members, family members, friends families. If you had enough of them you could get a little bit, but not much. In today’s environment you’re wasting your time.
Someone said real estate. Real estate is a loser if you’re trying to do it part time. The cost of getting the license, broker cut, office fees, etc will be more than the 1 house every 3 years you’re helping a friend/family/etc with.
There’s one way to make money in real estate. Spend money. Zillow leads aren’t cheap, but if you’re smart about what you buy, you can get a 2/1, 3/1 and if the market gets hot 5/1 return on it. Or find a broker who buys/provides them till you figure out how.
In the last 5 years before I retired I spent over 100k on them, my broker probably 5 times that. It paid for itself quite well.

o far I find it exceedingly difficult to sell these products. Very few people are even willing to even talk about it. Some get angry or just hang up on you.

This isn’t the crowd to ask this question, I can promise you the majority of the OT is too prideful to ever buy life insurance.
I’m an agency owner, I started my agency 6 years ago in the peak of COVID. It’s not a part time gig if you want any measure of success. If you commit to it, it’s one of the best gigs but you have to do P&C too. I am 1099 and all of my employees are W-2. This year my annual bonus was 221k. This year gross revenue for my agency will be 1.2 million, with a 60% expense ratio.
I probably spend 20 hours a week in office, and we travel and spend time with the kids and family more than we ever have. Happy to chat about it.

I opened in Summer of 2019. Then hit the brick wall that was Covid in march of 2020. Luckily I’m in FL.
