Went to marriage counseling. Was very helpful, we were at a time in life where we were being hit on all sides by stressors (deployments, PCS, new baby, cancer etc). '

Was immensely helpful probably saved my marriage.

I've been through this. GF wants to change you. It's not meant to be.

Be the best version of yourself you can be, if she wants to hang around she will. If not, you've lost nothing.

My wife and I went to 1 session as they are covered by our employee assistance program. after that hour we decided it wasn't really worth it for us and we could overcome our problem on our own better than with a therapist.

This thread got me thinking. I would like to start a "barstool therapy" type business. Meet your therapist for a few drinks at a bar, etc.

Seems like a good idea to me. Wonder if it would violate any professional standards, ethics, etc.

My ex gf wanted her sister to give us relationship counseling, then stopped because she said we were flirting with each other. That's as close as I got.

I went every week for 5 months earlier this year. It helped me work some things out. Didn't help my anxiety or depression though.

Tell her "Yeah, let's go." and drive her to Hooter's, instead.

Tell her "THIS IS my therapy"- and order a pitcher of draft beer with one mug.

Observe her reaction and give her your analysis.

Poster at the top of the list should be that douchebag, OWLFAN. His perpetual need to act like a child to gain attention is very disturbing, for someone who is evidently middle aged.

I went to therapy for depression and anxiety a few years ago. The stereotype of lying on a couch and talking about your childhood and parents isn't really true. My therapy was very problem focused and used cognitive-behavioral techniques to really address what was going on in my life and more importantly my response to what was going on. I don't know you, but I suppose most people could benefit from a little therapy of that type.
