When I get two more (to my wife's strenuous objections) they will be ameraucana's most likely.

I will say that the RIR is an egg laying machine. rarely misses a day with out an egg from her. It's funny because each of the breeds eggs are very distinct. I know exactly which one layed them.

It is cool watching those frickers run around.....no telling what they are gonna do. We have 5 hens.

We started off with a rooster but he was loud as shite like everyone says and meaner than a damn pit bull. He would chase my 2 year old around the yard....which was pretty damn funny until he tackled her. Then it got real quick

My neighbor had some until this past weekend. Something (he’s blaming another neighbor’s dog who had harassed them previously) tore up the coop and killed 1 of them. The rest of them hauled arse and haven’t been seen since.

i must have the best rooster ever. I have an ameraucana rooster. He has never even ran after anyone. We go outside with a can of vienna sausage and he comes and eats out of our hand. He is very cautious of people. I handled him alot when i got him though.

I had a pretty barred rock rooster, but I think a snake bite done him in, because I found him the next morning on the ground inside the coop, no cuts, abrasions or anything. Checked him pretty good, but I didn't think about a snake bite until after I disposed of him. I woke up early that morning before sunrise and didn't hear him crowing, that's when I found him.

Yea ours never would let us touch/hold him too much.....he seemed pretty anti-social...he was good with the hens but always stayed kind of separate from them. It was strange.

BTW the richest person I personally know has an egg farm. When the avian flu wiped out flocks all over the country, his were untouched and he made bank.

Dont know why you are downvoted, but i have been raising chickens for almost a decade.

We have had over 100 rhode island reds and sexlinks with 2 roosters.

It has been a learning process for years. Ups and downs for sure.

We use to get over 50 eggs a day but around 30 now as our numbers have dwindled because of harvesting a few.

Any questions just ask.

I kind of feel if you have chickens, you most likely have a chicken coop, so it is kind of weird to ask people if they have a chicken coop or chickens. If you had a chicken coop and no chickens, then there is probably something wrong with you.

same here GPs were country folk, except I had to face the torment on my own, they didn't see and may not have cared or taken up for the roosters. But damn those stupid things could be intimidating.

We tried sneaking the new ones in at night when they were asleep.

We also have a nice side coop as you do it sounds like for that transition. We use it to find out who is laying and who isnt too with marking the legs loosely with zip ties.

Sneaking them in worked wonders. The dumb asses had no clue there were new chickens

I believe the other poster mentioned doing the same thing.
