We also hace the same type rooster.
His name is conway as he sounds a lot like conway twitty with his chirping. Very vocal fella and skidish as all get out.
Our roosters dont chase any humans and are scared shitless of us.
Now, we did have two other roosters a few years ago and one became a pet.
Horrible idea. Once he became tame he soon chased my arse around the yard relentlessly.

Good job. That is how it is done.
A good rooster keeps order also. We have two rooster with one so pld he has passed on his manly duties to Conway. Conway is young, strong, and protects the hens with fury. That use to be Foghorns job but he is geriatric now and has it easy. No more dealing with whiney hens or allowing them to eat first. Just enjoying life. He was a great rooster for years but just got old.
Now, if i throw some maggots our to eat? Shheeettt Conway and Fogorn both tell the hens to GTFO as they go to town like a lion.

Loved having chickens but now I’m on the road too much. Always getting into something entertaining and did more than I ever expected to cut down on ticks. Hope to have them again one day.

lol. my rooster runs the coop. He gathers the hens up and keeps them close by, finds them treats and calls for them to come eat. When he is ready for a piece he struts around and the hens just lay down waiting for him to mount them.. a true boss. Thats my boy, King Edward

I do and I can tell you pretty much anything about them.
Roosters are very protective, attacked me, my dog, my kids. I liked hearing him crow but my kids was scared so he had to go.
The hens are nice as can be and when you raise them from chicks, they are very friendly.
On average I get 5 to 6 eggs a week per chicken. Do research and plan your coop properly and it's really easy to have chickens.

That is exactly how it should be done. Foghorn was our best rooster and had that same relationship. He matured into a magnificent rooster. We were getting our highest amount of eggs during his tenure of up to 60 possibly a day.
Now Conway is an excellent protector and he does all the same things you mentioned, but he is no casa nova or don juan. He has to sneak em and it can be rough, but they are ok and never harmed. He is just so damn big compared to them.
We had one rooster when Fog was still running the show that was a terror to the chickens at all times. Fog would track him down from across the yard to check him. He would tear his arse up, literally.
He was such a bad rooster that one day i just pulled my gun out and shot him right in the yard. He had injured a hen in front of me and i had enough. We ate him soon thereafter.
He tasted real good.

What do y’all do if y’all leave town for a few days or a week? How long can chickens take care of themselves? Y’all have someone tend to them?

You piss off all of your neighbors for $3 worth of eggs

They’re super easy to take care of. We only have 6 hens. They produce enough eggs for us and extras to give away. It gives my kids something to do and they enjoy it. We live on about 4 acres so we let them roam during the day. They go back to the coop on their own, when the sun starts to go down.
Don’t get a rooster. We had one and I was glad when he died. He was a mean motherfricker.
