Coushatta is a nice little town. Too often, posters here used the term "shithole" because the town has a lot of black residents (which Coushatta does) and/or the town doesn't have a lot of money. Neither of these factors make a town a "Shithole."

I'm administering a settlement involving a large number of heirs of some black heirship property in Red River Parish. There are several hundred individuals, and with the exception of one individual who now lives in California, these individuals are great country folks with strong family values. I enjoy dealing with these heirs, especially those who still live in Red River Parish. I'm having kidney surgery (removing a giant stone) week after next, and some have called to say a prayer for me.

ETA: Because some of the families are large (which results in the % of ownership being split into small shares), some of the monthly distribution checks are less than $20. I'm amazed at the number of calls where someone calls to say "I realize it is a small amount, but I'm thankful to have it .. thanks for your work.". There really are a lot of good people in Coushatta.

I go to Coushatta quite often for work. It’s a nice little town that hasn’t been infected by a Walmart yet. Good people there

It's so much better since the infusion of shale money. It used to have one of the worst school systems in the state.

Last time I went there, the bridge over the Red River was a one lane bridge, with a stoplight directing flow of traffic across the bridge. I also remember a display of yard decor (windmills, streamers, birdhouses, etc) at the base of the bridge.

They beat us in the Dome in 92.

Their QB was Harry Gary. Dude was like Michael Vick

Anyone with land there made a lot of money off the Haynesville Shale boom.

I live just outside of coushatta. Only gunshots you hear is from hunting season. I was raised in Shreveport and love living somewhere that if you forget to lock your door, you don't get robbed. When you go to the store, people are friendly no matter what color you are. And former tiger and NFL player Bennie Logan is from here. Very nice guy.

Well, it’s been a while then. A new bridge opened in 1990.

I cross that bridge many times a year so I dont have to go over Jimmie Davis.

It's not a bad drive, but the pick up in shale activity is making the roads worse.

Glad the shale business has picked up for the locals though. Seeing a lot more rigs lately.

Nice compared to other small shithole towns in Louisiana with no opportunity and poor education. Some of y’all need to get out more.

Someone says one nice thing and you just couldn’t resist huh? God forbid someone say something positive for once.

Try a Bailey Burger at Bailey’s Sandwich Shop. Walk up burger stand on Front Street that’s been there 40 years at least.

Fausto’s RIP. The chicken and seafood platter were scrumptious, burgers excellent and plate lunches just delicious. Then the lady retired, left it to her druggie son and he ran it in the ground within a couple of months. It might still be technically open but hardly ever any cars there. Back in the day you could barely get a parking spot at lunchtime.

It was Uncle Albert’s chicken in the 80s. I knew a guy who was often the manager on weekends. He would cook up plenty of chicken late, then close it around midnight. He and his buds would feast on the “leftover” chicken and enjoy the privilege of having the ability to play free pool, jukebox, pinball, and video games the rest of the night. Good times.

Lemme guess. You’ve never been to Coushatta, LA for any extended period of time!

Some interesting history from Coushatta after the Civil War. I remember this from college.

Great grandparents lived there. Owned a house and 40 or so acres along the red river. They passed away and my grandfather rented the house out to some locals. They lived there a couple years and it was all good. The next tenants were not so good so he got upset and sold the place along with the mineral rights! In the Haynesville shale. His attorney bought it for cheap. Slimy bastard

A year later I was driving by and there was a brand new oil rig right behind the house. Missed out on millions
