How much training is involved with being a jockey? Or is it just a genetics thing?

The politically correct term for them now is "little people."

GF is friends with Rosie Napravnik. Rosie's parents were in the business and she got started doing show jumping, etc, then moved over to the racing side. Most of them start real young.

I know they are tiny, I was more curious how much work it required to stay so little. They are just so small

Sauna, bulimia, cocaine. Whatever it takes. And some of them just plain grow out of it anyway. That's why females can compete on a more or less equal level with males. There are a lot more 110 lb girls out there than there are guys, and they don't have to work as hard to keep the weight off.

Not any more. She had the baby earlier this week

Supposedly she's going back to riding when the youngin grows up a bit.

Jerry Bailey told a great story on a pre-race show about how he rode his first race. He described it very dramatically, then said the WalMart manager came out and said he had to put a quarter in if he wanted to play on the horse.

He totally had me buying into it.
