Just wondering if there are any vets of the 101st out there on Tigerdroppings and how was their experience at Ft. Campbell?

My dad was a reservist there (he’d been in the 11th during the war). He was standing in the doorway of a C-47 over Ft Campbell getting ready to jump when he realized he probably shouldn’t (as the father of two youngins) be doing that anymore.
So much for the $10 additional jump pay he was getting. (1953-ish)

101 doesn’t jump anymore. They all agreed it was just a little too scary.

I remember an incident near Chu
Lai where the 101st and Marines accidentally fired on each other. It created tensions at the EM club where both contingents would drink. Fortunately, there were no injuries and the 101st left the area after a short time. The guys in the 101st didn’t take any crap from the Marines.

When I was in Iraq the Division Commander sent trucks to a field artillery brigades FOB and picked all their guns up. They hit everything (Americans and Iraq civilians) but the targets assigned.
They went home without their tubes. Active duty unit.

Do you have orders to Campbell?
My son is there (not in one of the worst) but it’s a decent base for Army and the area is pretty good.

That's funny, but the real reason for the switch to Air Assault is the increased use of choppers in Vietnam. Mobility and Quick response is the future.
Although, we still need brave warriors to jump out of perfectly fine airplanes.
Much respect to the 82nd

It’s not bad there. Nice outdoors things to do around there and you can go to the city an hour away. Ft Campbell itself seemed alright
