A few years ago I bought my daughter a Pontiac G5. One of those death traps that have been recalled by GM and she wrecked twice that I know of.

So GM has this deal where you can trade one of those recalled cars for a new one and get the employee discount.

My wife also needed a new car. It is old and another daughter wrecked it a few years ago when she turned left in front of an oncoming car.

So I traded my daughter's G5 for a new Suburban LTX for my wife and threw the wife's car in on the deal. But I was not satisfied with what they were offering for the trade ins. Then I told the salesman to knock off another grand or I was going to walk to another dealer 30 miles away. He took my offer.

So the long and short of this is that I traded in two POS cars, got the employee discount, and will have some cash to buy my daughter another good, clean, used car.

I bought the wife's new car for about $14,000 under MSRP.

Good deal for me? Yes, or no?

It really depends on what you got for the two cars on trade.

But $14000 below sticker on a new body style Suburban sounds good. If the old style, then no.

If someone on here tells you it's a shitty deal, are you going to bring it back?

MSRP means nothing, unless you pay it. It is a made up or suggested number.

Always start at invoice price and work with way down to dealer cost.

If you are happy with the deal, then this is all that matters.

Here's the best piece of advice I have ever been given.

Cars, as with all other material possessions, are worth what you think they're worth. Prices vary, but a deal is a deal if you feel like you got a good one. Unless you're gouged, the variance is negligible. Sometimes you strike gold, sometimes you get dong slapped by emotions.

You got a new car for the cheapest price possible.

It all depends what you got for the trade-ins.

And LOL at blaming GM for having a daughter that has repeatedly turned into oncoming traffic.

Edmunds.com has an estimate but doesn't (or at least didn't) account for advertising that is paid by dealers on all new cars.

Will, you seem to know your shite about auto purchases moreso than anyone else on here. I've read your step by step instructions for buying a new car but do you have any advice for buying a slightly used car from a dealership? I've been looking at 2013 accords and plan to purchase one soon, but I don't have info like invoice price or know what they paid for the car. I guess all I can go off of is kbb or the Edmunds price and go from there, right?

Unless you know someone within the industry that can get you the latest edition of the black book, have to go with NADA guide for used car value, just keep saying that's not good enough and never counter with a number, it is their job to provide you wih all the financial data, it's your job to accept it or not.

Not a death trap, tell them to take those 50 keys, and keychains off the keyring Put the key, remote, and a house key on it. Problem stems from people having 3lbs of keys on the keychain.
