For softball you pretty much have to play travel ball in high school to get a scholarship right?

Travel ball was some of the funnest years with my boys...and I miss those days. My favorite thing in the world is watching them compete and improve. Most parents were cool and we've made some lifelong friends throught it.
So you can participate and teach your kid the true meaning of team, or you can be a dick and isloate...your kid will pick up on it and learn that its all about him.

Why wouldn’t you just enjoy the time, make new friends, and enjoy some hang out time?
The travel ball thing is stupidly blown out if proportion…. Assuming you get a good group.
My son played 8 years with same core group- wouldn’t trade it for the world. Great friends, had great times, my son has made lifetime friends, etc.
Yes it’s expensive, yes it’s time consuming…. But in about 10–12 years, there won’t be any more games or practices to go haul him around to.
Enjoy!

For the most part HS SB is a joke. Travel SB in alliance / top gun tournaments will get you more exposure than anything high school related.

Your TD bio says you coach travel ball. Interesting.

We are staying at different hotels and not hanging out like a big fraternity every second we aren't playing.
This is not the way.

Reddit /r/TalesFromtheFrontDesk , as well as watching other people's kids and parents not act civilized. I'm pointing out what I see, repeatedly, with other people's kids, including whether I'm there for HARDO TRAVEL BALL or traveling for other reasons.
The people that stay independently of the gaggle tend to be fine. The ones you see at a peaceful breakfast, "oh, there are a few more kids here playing XXX," are fine. The gaggle is the disaster. OP isn't depriving his kid of anything.

Update……. We ended up staying at the same hotel as all the other guys and last night was cool. Two of the dads and myself have set up a fishing trip in a couple weeks. Appreciate everyone’s insight and advice, it made me realize I was being somewhat of a dick. T-Rev is up and ready it’s rewarding seeing the smile in his face ready to play today. Have a great weekend guys!
