Fortification is rough, but there are places young people go in that area. Fenian's bar and there is a popular Mexican restaurant there too.

It sounds like there was a passenger in the car so motive should not be hard to find.

My point is if it was a carjacking then the passenger should be able to say so. If it was a drug deal then maybe not so much.

That's not the roughest area of town. belhaven and Millsaps are right there and there are some bars and restaurants that young white people like this girl frequent.
Thursday night, she's probably headed back home from fenians.
But Fortfication street is so named because it is where the Confederate troops fortified the defense of Jackson. I'm sure the young man that shot this pretty young woman was just triggered.

I'm at Baptist Hospital for work all the time. My customers have even said things to me about being careful around Jackson but I never seem to feel uncomfortable or see anything off putting the way I do when I'm in New Orleans, where I rarely feel comfortable by myself. I find it shocking that this happened right near the hospital, and that it was totally random. There are some nice houses and areas around those parts.
Jackson must really have issues. I remember seeing about the little boy who was kidnapped from Kroger and murdered. But locals told me there was way more to that story and that many believed the mom was in on it.
