This has been going on forever. Our media makes it known to more in this day and age, much like other this that we demonstrate faux shock at. When I was in high school, most of the male teachers/coaches were married to former students. The female angle, I don't quite get.

I definitely think that typically when it is a male teacher and female student, it is purely a sexual and physical thing on the male teachers part.
Now when it is a female teacher and male student, I really believe it is much more psychological. The female teacher probably didn't get the attention from the "popular jocks" when she was in high school, but now that she is a teacher and in a position of power, the "popular jocks" give her all sorts of attention and it eventually leads to sex.
