Regulations on banks make it get acquired or be the buyer...only other option is stay tiny...midsized community banks can't survive
I know nothing about bank regulations, but there are quite a few small town banks in north Louisiana (from towns like Gibsland, Coushatta, Natchitoches, Minden, Choudrant, etc.) that have started growing by opening new branches in other towns, rebranding, etc. and seem to be doing well.

Only Jindals first term. Otherwise no. Anyway, JBE is scum and his political career in Louisiana is done.

You bank with Wells Fargo and Bank of America? Who is the third? Truist?

Does anyone know what the LA banking laws are that prevent all the major banks from having branches there. I travel all over the US and LA is the only place I can't find a branch of at least one of my three national banks. When we were building our camp we opened a Regions account just to be able to bank locally.
It's not so much law but LA is probably the last place in the country where small business is still pretty dominant. Be it banking, restaurants, groceries, whatever... we still very much love and support our small businesses and kinda look askew at big national chains.
As time rolls on, all these small independent banks start to realize that they are struggling to be efficent, so they start getting together. Someone like First Bank will buy up a single branch bank here, a chain of 3 branches there, etc, until they get to a decent size... enough to be noticed by a larger bank chain... and then someone like BankPlus comes in and gobbles them.
And because we never had any big bank chains here... any buyer of size will always be from out of state.
After Iberia sold out, I'm pretty sure the largest bank HQ in LA is Sabine State Bank and they have about 50 branches. Home Bank, First American, etc, all have less than 50 branches. And they all seem like they would rather merge up than merge with each other.

It's pretty safe to say Mississippi has put the moves in to solidly put Louisiana as the absolute, undeniable "50th in everything" place.
With JBE, the Destroya, and Sharon Weston DOOM in as the trifecta, you can't tell me South Louisiana isn't sprinting to some kind of Mad Max hellscape.
.
Since this is clearly the case, when will the cost of living/housing/etc in BR/NO come down to reflect being in the last place state a la WV? waiting...

WF, BOA, and Citi. My wife has a Chase account now which I think has some branches in LA. When we built the camp my WF account may have still been Wachovia not 100% sure.
I just have always thought the lack of large regional and national banks in Louisiana was odd I just always assumed there were some state banking regulations that made the big banks shy away.
