Can I get this officers contact info? My son was riding his bike to the neighborhood park Sunday and another kid threw a rock at him.
Maybe he'd be willing to neutralize this deadly threat we have in our neighborhood.

How many "botched raid" stories would I have to post to convince you that "normal people living in society" are routinely victims of police incompetence and overzealousness?
Looking at your link, i still have nothing to worry about. I"m not black, i'm not mexican, i dont' live in an apartment, i don't live in a trailer, I don't run from police, and i don't brandish weapons at police. Sorry for stereotyping, but one of those things shows up in every single one of those reports.
I think this parody clip gives an idea of why i'm never going to be in the situation of "botched raids"

In July 2005, a Sarasota, Florida SWAT team conducts a drug raid on a home where several children are playing in the front yard. The SWAT team descends from a van, deploys flashbang grenades, then swarms the home. 44-year-old Michael Meluzzi, who had a criminal record, begins to flee as he sees the armed agents exit the van. Police chase Meluzzi down and fire a Taser gun at him, partially hitting him. According to Officer Alan Devaney, Meluzzi then reached into his waistband, leading Devaney to believe he was armed. Devaney opened fire, killing Meluzzi. Police would find no weapon on or near Meluzzi's body. Sources: "Suspect is stunned, then fatally shot, "
One of the few "innocent" guys killed in your link. Would not have been killed had he not run and act like a dumbass.
Put yourself in his shoes. Are you going to run away while your kids are playing in the yard and Swat comes in to wrongfully arrest you? Just do what they say and you won't be killed. If you have nothing to hide from, let them wrongfully arrest you. yeah it sucks. You'll probably get to sue them and win, assuming you were completely innocent.

Running now = death sentence? K.
How about this one?

quote: Laurens Co, Georgia: A burglar went onto the Hooks' property and stole an SUV. After he was captured, he then told the police that he found drugs in the car. The police got a warrant and, without announcing themselves, broke down the back door. The homeowners thought the burglars were returning and so retrieved a gun. The police open fired and David Hooks was killed.
and you said

At no point in my life will i ever be in a situation where a cop has a reason to do anything physical with me.
I'm glad you're so sure of that. Bet Hooks thought the same thing.

You missed the part where David Hooks brandished a gun?

yep they sure do because all they do is run around shooting random folks - on duty and off duty cops jump in frozen pond to save boy.
I'm not saying they didn't overreact here (although if folks would just do what they're supposed to do, they won't get shot), but to just say "cops suck" is just plain ignorant.

Maybe you missed the part about the police getting their "tip" from a meth addict. The same one who stole Mr. Hooks car two days earlier. Mr. Meth Head said Mr Hooks had had a huge meth supply and was dangerous. In return, police cut meth head head loose and did a no knock raid on Mr. Hooks house. Mr Hooks supposedly grabbed an unloaded gun in the middle of the night when the storm troopers came in, and they killed him. Of course, no drugs were found. And, according to the family and lawyer, he was shot after being in custody face down in the back of the head. But hey, I guess we get the police we deserve right?
Based on you not brandishing a weapon, how do you keep your family safe? Or do you just hope no one breaks in? Serious question.

I didnt', did you know this:
quote:
Garrett’s claims were the primary basis for the search warrant. But investigators also claimed they were familiar with the address from a 2009 investigation in which a suspect claimed he had supplied ounces of meth to Hooks, who resold it. Nothing apparently ever came of that investigation, but the five-year-old uncorroborated tip made it into the search warrant application.

He was not cut loose, he was arrested the day of the shooting b/c he was positively id'd by the Hooks as the robber.
quote:
did a no knock raid on Mr. Hooks house
Police say they announced themselves and the warrant, which was NOT a no knock warrant, he said she said though. The wife saw the van of swat officers, so it's not like they didn't know someone was coming. I can understand his thinking in grabbing the gun thinking it was something bad though.

Loaded or not, that does not matter.
Officers claimed they told him to put the gun down, and he did not.
quote:

so you are of the belief they handcuffed this guy and then shot him in the back of the head? I find that extremely hard to believe. What do you think your first reaction is to being shot, or shot at? turn and run. what happens when you get shot? you fall down. what are cops, and everyone for that matter taught when it comes to using their weapon? keep shooting until the threat is completely neutralized.

I have several guns. I don't point them at police officers.
The day a white family of four, that have jobs, a nice house in a nice neighborhood, kids go to catholic school, and have not had brush ins with the law at any point in their life have a mistaken raid happen to them and someone dies, i'll start considering your silly paranoia.

I am glad to see some loyalists still believing everything the state tells them.
I cant tell if he's white or not.

Tragic indeed.
Again, I'm not Mexican, I don't live in an apartment, and my son isn't a drug dealer living with me.
nothing any of you have said lead me to believe anything remotely close to this would ever happen to me, my family, or close friends.
this isn't happening to an upper middle class white family in their nice house in their nice neighborhood. Find one like that for me.

Wow. So you admit that justice is only afforded by this small segment of our population you have just described?
Black? You may get shot.
Poor? You may get shot.
Attend public school? You just may get shot.
And the best part is that you don't seem to think this is in any way un-just.
