Another BR loop thread, but I don't want to talk about the loop.

DOTD just killed Kip's plan for the inner loop to convert Airline Highway to interstate. I don't think it was a retarded plan, but the fact that we don't have the money to even do that pretty much kills the idea of a new bridge and a loop.

WHY can't they widen the interstate from the bridge to Dalrymple and GET RID OF THE WASHINGTON STREET EXIT??? WHY are we still talking about this 30 years later? WHY do they let a few stupid businesses on Perkins dictate public policy? It's fricking stupid.

I wish Baton Rouge would do away with the city council.

You do realize the "new" bridge, opened in '69, was suppose to be a BR bypass. The state politicians moved it downtown for ease of access to state capital. Blame the sorry SOB's from then !!!!!!!

Because they'd have to take the money from higher education and you'd have a fricking total death inducing meltdown.

I have grown so weary of this subject because it is so fricking frustrating.

If Vitter wanted to lock down the election, he should promise to bring a loop to BR, finish I-49, and widen I-10 between BR and Lafayette and propose combo toll/bonds to get that shite done.

Because as a country we have lost the will to make difficult decisions, take risks, and invest in infrastructure. The Basin bridge could never be built today.
Hoover Dam could never be built today.

We have lost our way as a nation. We have lost our will to try. We try to please everyone, protect everything, and simply try to get by while our politicians spend all of our money on buying votes and trading favors.

Hopefully, someday we'll get our balls back, but until then, we're just going to have to bite the pillow, because they're going in dry.

Kip knows what's up, we need a loop. Those people on the council are terrible, either race baiters or douchebags. Delgado is a fricking doucher, that bitch that gave R Kelly the key to the city and permission to pee on her is a race baiter

Monroe is even considering another bridge/loop. It won't be Interstate, but it'll be something to ease traffic congestion.

I like Kip a lot because I think he's done a good job as Mayor but I can't say that I was impressed by the Airline Hwy idea. I know it wasn't his idea (the idea was a legislator from Ascension Parish's) and it was really the only loop that was proposed in his jurisdiction so I guess that's why he went on-board. I suspect from his perspective he was just trying to help, rather than just being a nay-sayer.

A northern by-pass that cuts through livingston parish, central, and hops on Hooper Rd is the only feasible option, imo. Finish i-49 for the southern bypass.

East/West Interstate thru traffic is not the problem. Except for accidents, do you see traffic jams at other times than rush hours? Therefore the Airline bypass would do no good, especially for the amount of money it would cost.

The problem is the localized rush hour traffic. And, the fact that the only major large arteries are I-10/I-12 that funnel most local traffic to the bridge and then to I-110.

A prior thread mentioned making Florida Blvd a major artery. An elevated thruway would provide unrestricted access to downtown without adversely affecting existing businesses and neighborhoods. It could be one-way inbound in the mornings and one-way outbound in the afternoons with restricted access. It would parallel I-12 but not affect bridge traffic with traffic jams.

This artery would take traffic from east of BR into the downtown area. It would ease the load on I-12. It could have an access from I-10 (At Airline?) and ease the traffic on I-10 also.

Baton Rouge needs more major arteries into/out of downtown before it needs a bypass.

One road will not solve the traffic problems but the right road can help tremendously.

A Florida Blvd thruway would be the most cost effective way to ease traffic at the I-10/I-12 intersection.

Adding lanes to existing roads will not solve the problem.

Baton Rouge is a piece of garbage. Eventually it'll be the crater just North of Prairieville, St. George and Denham.

This guy gets it. At least the part about having more options to get out the city.

I'd be all in favor of making Nicholson a more viable option to get into Ascension.

We are stuck with Airline as is because of the Seigan Sherwood "intersection".
