I don't even have to help you look stupid. You do such a great job on your own

It is. I don't think anybody really argues that.

What gets me is the publicity about the " campaign" and the fact that its been a law forever and yet people will still pull up to a police officer standing at an intersection without even trying to act like they have it on.

I keep one of these in my truck... throw it on when I'm going for a drive.

Yeah, but I'm OK with chipping in on getting a secret service agent laid. I feel like your example is just sarcasm.

For anyone who is interested as to why primary enforcement of rules like these is stupid, please see Atwater v. City of Lago Vista. See LINK for a synopsis.

The Supreme Court was dead wrong reaching that result.

Cliffs: Fought the seatbelt law like a boss in Montana civil court. Made some interesting points. Got hilariously shot the frick down.

Actually a body flying out of a car is a risk to other drivers.

Plus the higher injury/mortality rate of non-belted drivers means insurance payouts and liability rises, which raises everyone's auto insurance rates. Not to mention that only trash doesn't wear a seat belt, and likely doesn't even carry auto or health insurance. So once they receive life saving care, John Q Taxpayer foots the bill. Thanks OP, you poor, trashy POS.

It's a moot point these days. My vehicle beeps and beeps and beeps and beeps until I put the damn thing on. My work truck is older and does not beep at me for not buckling up. I never wear my seatbelt when driving it. Of course the only time I use it is when I am tooling around my small town at 20-25 mph. For some reason I don't think I'll die in a fiery crash while doing that.

I said I wear my seat belt all the time. Thanks for not reading the entire thread and being a thunder count.

don't know why anyone would be in a moving vehicle without wearing a seat belt.

Pointless campaign since virtually all cars since the 80s contain a mechanism for reminding the driver to fasten their seat belt.

was behind a minivan yesterday on airline. I could see a small child walking around in the van. that driver should not only be ticketed but arrested as well.

The best is when a motorcycle cop writes you up for no seat belt. Happened to be last year.

I'd get a pretty good chuckle out of that if it happened to me. Would take all the restraint I had not to say something really smartass to said cop.

I say this because you're an ignorant slob, mouth-breathing buffoon, ranting about personal freedom being stripped because of a law that doesn't affect your day to day life in the least. Spend less time in the trailer park bitching and moaning about the big brother government. Learn to read, get an education and lobby to repeal the law if it's such a violation of your personal freedom, white trash.

Im just saying that if you are going to drive on a road built by the govt then you have do abide by their rules. Id much rather live in a world where im completely self sufficient and can be as free as a bird because nobody provided any service or amenities for me. Unfortunately that's not the world we live in.

Wow. The road was built by a government employee. That government employee was paid to do said job. I wonder where the government got the money to pay it's employees?

And how did said Government build this road without the taxpayers? I did not realize companies were now submitting bids to perform work for free. Some really nice companies out there.

bUT IT RESULTS IN MORE serious injury and death which raises insurance costs and increases SS Disability payouts which we all pay for.

i wonder how many defending the right to not wear a seat belt also support a person's right to smoke?
