Badly sprained ankle last night. Ligaments have always been flimsy with past sprains, but been awhile since I’ve had one this bad. Any tips besides RICE?

A sprain is damage to your ligaments, not your tendons.

Rest it
Ice it
Compress it
Elevate it

Get a therapeutic cold/heat wrap for the whole foot. Alternate 2 cold for 1 heat treatment.

Soak that fricker in ice water for 30+ minutes at a time. Should be better in a few days. Hurts like a motherfricker but it works.

this won't help much now but it can in the future. the absolutely most important thing for an ankle sprain is don't take the shoe off. absolutely don't take off your shoe when it happens. secondly, after resting a few minutes, get up and move around on it. keep it moving. put pressure on it. not necessarily all the pressure you can. Yes it will hurt and yes it sounds stupid. If you think I'm wrong, try to prove me wrong.

get a brace and follow RICE

nothing else you can do, unless you sprained it really easily then you have a chronic issue that requires surgery on the ligament

if you are concerned, talk to an orthopedic, not the OT

Dont do RICE its outdated and unhelpful

Icing slows down the healing process. Inflammation is literally the body's healing process.

Ice isn’t the norm anymore. Don’t ice. RICE is outdated.

I've rolled my ankle 3x since this stupid virus hit. I just man up and keep running around on it. It's what I did as a kid and what I do as I approach 40. The only time I did NOT do this was when I broke my ankle. But, I still walked on that for 10 days before I ended up in a boot.

TL;DR exercise it as much as you can
