Mine only showed herding extinct once in all the years I had him (which is why he was a good horse show dog).
He was playing with some kids and they each ran in different directions. Blew his mind

Our Border Collie (the one we had to put to sleep earlier this year) never showed any herding instinct other than she would get into the "pose" before chasing after a frisbee.
The only thing I worry about here is that we have raccoons come up at night. My Aussie goes nuts and will kill one or run them off (and she has never had a scratch - she's a really good venomous snake and clawed animal fighter). Since the BC lost an eye in a raccoon fight and has little in the way of teeth (apparently from killing armadillos), I need to keep him away from any raccoon fight.

Awwww
My guy had missing and broken teeth too. I named him Calvin after Calvin Borel
We think he tried to bite his way out of a kennel in a thunderstorm. He had terrible storm anxiety.

This new dog has storm anxiety (according to the former "owner") but he is also kind of hard of hearing. It will be interesting to see how he does now.
Our old BC was immune to loud noises (locomotives, storms, etc.) but was very sensitive to owners raising voices.

My great grandparents had what looked like a border collie based on the picture. She would put a baby down on a quilt outside and go about her business while the dog kept the baby from crawling off the quilt.

That's a beautiful pup.
I believe the lifespan of a border collie is between 12-18 years, so you may be able to make a bunch of great memories together

We've got a rescue Border Collie estimated to be about 2-3 years old. He loves to play and barks a LOT but he's smart and super sweet.

I hope so. My age for him is just a guess. It would be awesome to get 4-5 years.

Good looking dog. Glad he finally has a good owner.
They are some of the smartest dogs on the planet.

Mine had never been kenneled, and during a family Christmas vacation where I brought him along, he was kenneled like the other dogs in the interest of "fairness" and "he might tear something up" (this dog hasn't fricked up anything besides a paper towel).
When we got back after a few hours to let him out, he had bruised the frick out his nose and gums and had BITTEN OFF THREE STEEL sections of the cage.
ETA: Also a rescue BC btw. He is either 13 or 14 now and still going strong with no signs of aging.

I adopted a 2-year-old collie a few months ago from a shelter. She’s a great mix of playfulness (with our puppy) and couch potato. Very laid back, lazy, and sweet. She does go absolutely ape shite on a leash around other animals, though.

Yep, I prefer to get a dog that's at least a year or so old. Puppies are a lot of work. I like the herding breeds as well. My latest is a blue heeler that I got at a year old. He still has a lot of energy, but he's smart as a whip and can be left inside for 14 hours with no problems as long as the trash can is put out of reach.

I have two, one is 4 and the other is about 10 or so. Great dogs.

After our 14 year old BC had to be put down in 2015, we thought we'd never get another dog. It was too damn hard. But, one day we happened upon a 7 mo. old purebred BC boy that was in a kill shelter in the Virginia foothills. We rescued him and it's one of the best decisions we've ever made.

Great dogs, I've had two including the 4 month old I have now. Very intuitive.

I adopted a 7 Year old Border Collie/Aussie and he has been fantastic. Adopting older dogs is the thing to do, I just don't have time for a puppy, Would not be fair to the puppy.

Mine is half border collie and half lab. It’s the best of both worlds. She’s the best dog I’ve ever had.
