As long as he doesn't buy a Mustang at an awesome 12% interest rate or marry ( or otherwise support) some stripper out in Jacksonville, NC you'd be surprised how far he can stretch that.

Not exactly military, but I did recently start working for the CIA. Only been a few months and already losing hair and sleep from stress. Can't help but think I'm in way over my head. Some friends still don't believe what I am doing, so I just send them this pic I took my first day. I don't THINK I'll be in trouble for showing it, but I used a separate website from all my social media accounts just in case.

Is the Dallas still a "Spec-ops" boat? I would assume so...
In '99, they were retrofitting her with a special chamber to carry/deliver SEAL equipment.
FUN FACT regarding the movie version of "Red October":
The USS Dallas does not actually appear in the movie. It was the USS Houston
ETA: I was an E-4 submariner making $1800/mo plus free base housing for my wife and I in Groton, CT.

Three friends from Boot Camp retired this year with 20 years of service
2 were E8's and one was an E6
They were all guys we considered "Dig-its"... Guys that really dug being in the military. All of them are great guys

From wiki:
On 17 March 1978, Batfish detected a Soviet Navy Yankee I-class ballistic missile submarine in the Norwegian Sea some 200 nautical miles (370 km) above the Arctic Circle.[1] Batfish began trailing the boat, collecting valuable information on how the Soviet Navy operated. During the next 50 days, the Yankee I never detected Batfish, and Batfish only lost contact with the boat: the first time during a bad storm, and the second time when a fishing fleet passed overhead. Both times, Batfish quickly reacquired the Soviet submarine.[1]
The Soviets remained unaware that their submarine had been followed by any vessel until U.S. Navy Chief Warrant Officer John Anthony Walker reported the incident to them while he was spying in the 1980s.[1] Walker pleaded guilty to espionage in 1985.
We trailed an Akula once when it was sitting off the coast of Georgia but the Russian Navy wasn't very active in my time (96-00).

Walker...bastard should have been taken apart at the joints. Them dumb rooskies had no idea how far ahead we were on sonar technology and tracking them.

In 2013 the US Navy announced that Dallas would be retired in 2014, however this was later extended to Fiscal Year 2017.

My guess is fleet readiness forced them to keep it on active duty status for a few more years.
