Not shitting on it - I think a NOLA to DFW route through BTR would be great to see. Some sections potentially could be highish speed.
I'd like one with a stop on campus for game day.
Take Amtrak instead of trying to sit in traffic.

a daily average of 109 passengers
So most train lines need 7% of the population to ride daily in order to stay afloat with taxpayer subsidizing more than 40% of the overhead.
So yall are all paying for it and not riding.

I watched a video the other day about how Amtrak keeps racking up a bunch of little wins like this around the country, slowly building up ridership
Wendover Productions should be required watching for the OT.

I'm paying for the bridge in Baton Rouge and not using it.
I guess we should stop funding that.

Sam from Wendover definitely got the train variety of tism.

Sometimes I likes to be eat’n my skrimps in mobile and sometimes I like to be eat’n my skrimps in nawlins. Plus I feels all fancy and shite up on that train, greyhound be all turnt.

I am 100% in favor of train expansions in this country - especially with how congested the interstates have become in the summers. Only problem with expanding the rails is that they run on rails owned by the railroads and they're generally not thrilled about that idea because it gets in the way of their business.

I've taken Amtrak past Wendover Utah several times

We gonna take it soon. Probably stay at the Beau Rivage and back to Nawlins next day

They have a business class cabin adjacent to the bar. Had better seats than coach.
I rode it from New Orleans to Mobile roundtrip and upgraded for $20 each way. Had some British tourists sitting behind me, a few older couples, and older solo travelers and maybe 4 empty seats in business.
I loved it, nice scenery, able to get some reading done, listen to music. It was way better than driving. Would definitely do it again.

Train stops right by the Beau in Biloxi
Posted on 10/28/25 at 3:29 pm to BowDownToLSU
It’s an easy walk to the Beau from the train platform. (No real depot in Biloxi - yet.) You go right past the Shucker’s stadium. I’m hoping to catch a Shuckers game next spring after training over from NOLA.

So how is the parking situation in NOLA.
Can I expect my car to be not up on blocks when I return ?

The route carried nearly 19,000 passengers from mid-August to the end of September — a daily average of 109 passengers, according to Knox Ross, the chairman of the Southern Rail Commission. As of Thursday, that total has climbed to almost 30,000.
Does not add up. Mid - Aug to mid - Oct at 109 per day not even close to 30,000 (62 x 109 = 6,758). Math is hard.

My guess is that the average may be per train and not per day and the reporting got screwed up.
Also, I would caution some restraint from those claiming some sort of victory. About 6000 of those riders came in the first 12 days with the other 13000 coming over the next 45.
There is some novelty in those numbers. How will Mardi Gras hold the numbers after football season? We shall see. The route is pretty shite in reality for connecting what could be a much better route to Tallahassee, Pensacola or Jacksonville.

There are 4 trains per day. MOBILE TO NOLA - NOLA TO MOBILE twice daily.
135 seats per train. 80% occupancy or 109 X 4 trains = 436 passengers daily or 13K+ monthly.

How soon until it suffers the Carnival fate?

If you considered the schedule you would realize your concern is flawed.

quote:We parked at the lot directly adjacent to the Amtrak Terminal for our day trip to Mobile. There is a clear line of sight from Loyola Ave. to the parking lot. Lots of vehicular traffic in that area. The car was there for about twelve hours, and it was dark on our return. There was significant activity at the terminal on our return, even though it was a weekday, with several cabs there hoping to pick up fares. A lot of foot traffic from fellow passengers, as well. The only issue I had with parking was that the lot uses a QR code to pay, and I had difficulty accessing the website. I finally finished the transaction on the train. Take a photo of your license plate, and make sure you copy the link with the QR code if you’re running late for the train.
So how is the parking situation in NOLA.
