Thought I'd google the address to see what these apartments look like.

In Houston, Piney Point Village and Hunters Creek Village both have higher median incomes than West U.

The zip code that encompasses Piney Point Village actually has the highest median household income in the country at $250,000.

Let me explain things to you. The more money you make the more your expenses increase. Expensive morage, property tax, matainence, etc etc. After everything is paid for that month it really is not a ton of money just sitting there to spend on whatever. Sure, you have nice things but it feels almost the same as when we did not make near the money we do now. I don't care how money you make, you can always use a little more. Being a billionaire is the exception.

The expenses increase because you allow it and is what leads to living beyond your means.

i thought they only pay 39.6% tax on the $2,000 and 35% on the 414?

Thanks. I shouldn't have forgotten Belle Meade's shanty town. I've driven past it enough times and should know better.

Idk, I thought it was just one tax bracket with one overall deduction for total income. Maybe I should put this on the Money Talk board.

no need to ask the money board, he is right and you are worng.

Please don't ask the money board. The 39.6% only applies to the amount that falls within that bracket. The rest is taxed at the rates within their respective brackets. (You only pay 10% on your first $18k).

in your example you would pay the following

Household one makes 414,000 which puts them in the 35% tax bracket.

Pays:
10% on first 9275
15% on the income between 9276 to 37,650
25% on the income between 37,651 to 91,150
28% on the income between 91,151 to 190,150
33% on the income between 190,151 to 413,350
35% on the income between 413,351 to 415,050

Household two makes 416,000 which puts them in the 39.6% tax bracket.

pays the same as above plus the extra 35% on the 1050 left in the 35% tax bracket plus 38% on the income greater than 415,050 so an household 2 has a take home of $1,271.50 more than household 1. this is assuming they have the same amount of deductions

How the frick do you not know this kind of stuff? Common damn sense to anybody that does their taxes or has any type of understanding of how our government works.

Oh and before you call me poor like you have others, think again. Im just not a moron when it comes to money.

But I do agree with you point about it not feeling like your rich as I am in the same position as you. What you need to think about is how much you are putting into retirement, savings etc. Thats why it doesn't seem like you are rich, you are putting way more away than others(or atleast in my case this is the reason and I pray it is in yours also)

I suspected that Belle Meade would make this list. Old southern money and zero apartments/townhouses.

I searched Great Falls, VA for apartments and the cheapest thing I came up with was a house for rent for $3300 a month.
