This country was founded with the thought that its citizens can petition and criticize its government without fear of repercussion.
True, and people with brains can dismiss that criticism as the nonsensical ravings of a lunatic madman.

so you abuse this right to the fullest.
You think posting my thoughts on the anonymous off-topic lounge of a sports message board for a state university is the fullest extent of the right to free speech?
You're a bright kid.

they would love it. Making a martyr for the rest of them? Just give them more of a reason to want to kill us.
So you agree that anger would be present? You agree that a response would be immediate? Would you see him teeing off or licking a camels nutsack (Im not sure what they do for leisure) the next day without a response? That's the point.

hey dip shite i never said I or Obama could have prevented this situation, but you bet your arse if i was president i would be on every channel right now giving a speech off the cuff and from the heart about the situation and ensuring America that this will not go unpunished. I'll wait to hear Obama's speech. I'm guessing it will be canned talking point bull shite read off a teleprompter in a few days. Regardless of party or politics that is a stupid fricked up way to handle this situation.
Sure you would

you're right. hopefully the president sits and thinks about this for a few weeks before he makes a statement.
Come on, man.
Every person in any position of importance knows that it's not wise to act while angry. You make bad decisions.

What do you think Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi would do if the U.S. government made one his fellow terrorist's kneel down on the White House lawn and put a bullet through his head while broadcasting it live on National Television for the entire world to see?
They win there.

This is a result of better, more accurate weapons and greater dialogue between nations.
More people were dying in an day during some battles of WW1 than all combat related deaths in conflicts since the turn of the century.
Think about that.

I for one would not be willing to trade one military life for a captured journalist. I know we can accomplish some good missions with drones, but sending in any troops for a journalist doesn't make sense to me.

It's what the president does. It's in his job description. Also, its just common decency to act like you give a shite about anything while you carry out the duties of the president of the untied states.

Obama is not a great orator. We haven't had a great orator in quite a while.

What is he going to say? Isn't it making enough of a statement to continue drone strikes on them to show them that we're not going to negotiate this shite? Forcing the President of the United States into another high profile conflict in the region is exactly what they want to do. If he goes and delivers a powerful, angry "We're going to destroy these people!" speech, they get exactly what they want. They're killing citizens because they think it'll get a response. The best way to handle it is to personally give your regards to the families, promise them that something will be done, and continue to hammer them into dust.

Why is Obama upset? He didnt know the guy personally.
The president should be smart enough to know how to give a speech to the American public immediately after a tragedy. I dont know why this is such a hard concept for you all to grasp.

But everything is so ridiculed in today's age that speaking off the cuff doesn't make much sense, unless you are remarkable at it. Planning your speech is much more prudent.
