No way they would force everyone to just shuffle all music. Would be an all time bad decision for a music steaming service.
This seems more like a business decision than a bug. Don’t they pay cheaper royalties if it’s “discover” rather than on demand. I remember that being a thing early on with streamers trying to get cheaper radio rates or something along those lines. I think that’s why Pandora is the way it is.
Regardless the answer is to stop using the service and complain to Amazon for breaking their app.

Just tried it and the title is misleading. You don’t actually have on demand access to songs that were previously on unlimited. If you select a song it “shuffles” to a similar song.
I only tried a few songs, but for me you just shuffle the album And it shuffles the album. It doesn’t go find “other” songs.

This is correct. Apple Music blows the rest out of the water.

Sunday I literally listened to Nirvana Unplugged start to finish
I actually listened to that album on Monday from start to finish on Amazon Prime as well.

I texted Steve Meve a screen shot when I was listening to Scarlet Begonias last week (when it was like 75 and sunny)

the larger catalog may make sense for more casual music listeners who prefer a more lean-back experience.
What does this mean?

I think they were being bold and it's going to bite them in the arse. This shite is literally going to kill Prime Music almost immediately
I'm serious. If they don't fix this within 2 weeks or so (especially with Christmas coming), people will all just leave it forever.

A “shuffle only” option for all prime members using their music service makes absolutely zero sense.
I'm going to keep trying it out, but at least they weren't stupid enough to do this with music purchased via Amazon.
Hell, that may have been illegal.

I searched around and the blowback on the this is bad
People are fricking pissed.

It would have been one thing if they just did this to the music app, but they broke Alexa too. You used to be able to ask Alexa to play a song, now she'll play a shuffled playlist with songs like the song you asked her to play.
It feels like they've painted themselves into a corner and have 2 choices, roll back to what it was before, which may not be possible depending on their contracts. OR add On Demand and find some other way to justify people paying for the premium service. Maybe a charge per device or additional family members.

Gotta give them credit for their spin. You asked Alexa to play one song. Instead we decided to surprise you with 100 million possible alternatives….at no additional cost!

Amazon has messed up their Prime Music.
Glad I have YouTube Music.
