Why not just come out and say "we're building our second headquarters in Austin"?

No income tax

The State gives out HUGE corporate tax incentives like candy

It's the HQ of their recent acquisition, Whole Foods
It's a tech hub where every other Silicon Valley company has, or is currently building, its second HQ

50,000 employees. Wow. Louisiana people don't have the work ethic to meet Amazon's standards.

Isn't that area prone to flooding?

Woodlands, north Dallas or San Antonio makes more sense than Austin

As much as I enjoy Austin, the infrastructure is stressed so much as it is. Bringing in another 75,000+ people is a lot.

Poor timing for Houston/Woodlands. I gues they took that area off the board after Harvey.

maybe, but impacts to woodlands were minimal. Most impact and north Houston was south spring and over east in kingwood and the West in cypress off of cypress creek

I take it that they're going to relocate a fair amount of their current workforce, including some executives, in order to "seed" the second headquarters.

I don't see Downtown Seattle tech people thinking that the Woodlands is where they want to be. It's basically the cultural opposite of Seattle.

They'll be looking for the "other" Seattle - so like a Denver, Nashville, Austin type place.

It's going to a big Northeast city, Texas, or one of the mini-tech hubs like Charlotte, Pittsburgh, or Nashville.

Wherever they go, they won't be paying much in taxes. States are going to bend over backwards to lure Amazon.

IBM can't even fully staff the brand new downtown BR location. There's a zero percent chance this thing comes to Louisiana.

Not many places equal to Seattle on that front if we want to be honest about it

My guess is that those people came from all over the country and world to work in Seattle where they adjusted to that corporate and local vibe.

Would be cool if this ended up in a bigger southern city like Memphis, Atlanta, or Nashville. That's pretty unlikely though.

I used to live in Collierville, TN. Every one of my neighbors worked at either FedEx corporate HQ or at their sprawling World Tech Center.

I suspect it will end up in San Jose or on the east coast.

What about Charlotte? Or Nashville, both make more sense geographically for logistical purposes than Texas. I agree Austin would appear to be the top choice on a whim. Will be interesting.

I could also see somewhere like Louisville?
