Ham radios always remind me of this guilty pleasure movie.

I know things.

Terrible things.

E was a good dude, don’t know if he’s still “on the air”.

Any Ham operators here?

I've been considering getting into it ever since I heard James Spann talk about it on the Storm Front Freaks podcast. He had his General license at like 14.

I spent most nights from 9-10:30 on the wall. It just became part of my schedule.

I’ve been looking. Can’t find anything to suggest he’s still working. Can’t find anything to saying he’s moved on either.

Nvm, it definitely is. I remember my last night there I had 2.5 hours of wall time.

His HAM radio club was the first experience I ever had with HAM radio. I ended up quitting it because I was lazy and stupid. I regret it now.

For now just a technicians license, but as I upgrade my equipment I will upgrade my license along with it. Any recommendations on equipment to get me going is appreciated. I still haven’t decided exactly on setup.

Extra Class checking in.

I'm mostly on 20 & 40m. VHF is pretty much dead in ORL.

That’s how I would talk to Canada and Oregon after a good thunderstorm on my CB base station as a 12 year old, lol. Loved it though.

Have been a ham for 50 years and known Joe for 30, we have had a interest in collecting and building vintage equipment, and over the years we have traded a number pieces between us trying to get the stuff we wanted as kids. He mainly operates the digital modes as a way to have a little anonymity.
