My dad and his father were very openly hostile with one another. His father was an exceptionally intelligent professor and wanted his son to follow in his footsteps. He instead turned into a frat star and salesman, which my grandfather despised. Their relationship was no secret and openly hostile between the two of them.

If your grandmother was old and it was expected, then not feeling as sad as you think you are suppose to be, is normal. Plus it also depends on how close you were to her.
