WAFB opted to leave the scene at one point after a reporter was robbed of his iPad while standing across the street from where the shooting happened. Police were called and the suspect was arrested.

I don't see how that is terribly probable.

and you don't see any way he could get a gun out?
Again, it doesn't seem probable if they draw their guns that he'd be able to then draw his weapon and shoot them before they could do anything about it.
Again, it doesn't seem probable.

Sure. Id rather try to tackle a guy than possibly have a gun pulled on me though.

quote:Oh definitely. Again, I'm not arguing that anything they did was wrong, I'm just pondering if it was the safest action for the 2 cops, not the perp.
A massive point is that they tried non-lethal force first. There was not an intent to kill until the non-lethal force didn't work and the suspect continued to resist while in possession of a deadly weapon.

He was pretty clearly moving his right arm at his side like he is reaching for something. The cops clearly verbally warned him multiple times to not do so. At least that's what I saw from what you posted. And he was still moving/struggling after the first two shots are fired.
The officers showed restraint even after the threat of a gun was in effect. The officer drew and still did not fire. Him going for the gun is the catalyst that caused him to lose his life. Nothing about the incident says these cops were out to just kill this man. Everything released shows they tried everything in their power to ensure a non-lethal outcome until their lives were put in jeopardy.

You have no idea what you would do and it's becoming clear you have very little clue in general.
It is really incredible how much some of you want to excuse away any and all actions the cops took. The idea that they're beyond reproach because any questions mean you're condoning Sterling's actions is ridiculous.

Ironically, if he had said "Hands up, Don't shoot" he would still be alive today.
His hands were spread Eagle out and they tackled Him.

I mean the course of action they took still resulted in the man's death, and at a minimum seems to put the officers in harms way more than staying at a distance would have done.
So they should have allowed a man with a gun to roam freely about the parking lot and asked nicely until he decided to comply? You're a special kind of stupid

So a standoff with a volatile (he threatened others with the gun beforehand and pretty clearly resisted being tased multiple times) gunmen who at any moment could reach in his pocket and start shooting. In most cases haphazardly, with people in close enough range they could record it pretty clearly on their phone from a car nearby.
You act like we don't see this kind of decision all the damn time in these situations. In fact, you know what you hardly ever see? A cop tackling an armed subject twice his size.

Ok but what if he turns and runs around a car. Now youre exchanging gun fire with a guy in a parking lot where other people are around.
In these situations you want to gain control of this guy BEFORE he gets the gun in his hand. When they tackled him that is exactly what they were trying to do. The situation did not play out that way in this instance but the officers had do act.

Police reported a 38-year-old woman was hit in the neck by a bullet as she was sitting in the driver’s seat of a vehicle in the 5000 block of Jackson Avenue near North Foster Drive at around 2:30 a.m.
She was taken to an area hospital with injuries that were classified as not life threatening.
The scene of this shooting is within blocks of the officer-involved shooting that took the life of 37-year-old Alton Sterling outside of the Triple S convenience store on North Foster Drive early Tuesday morning. On Wednesday evening, a vigil and protesters were present.

You think I am scared of THEM?????????????
Not a fricking chance....... They need to grow up and realize THEIR people are criminals .... I am sorry the dude got shot, but the African American community needs to realize that its NOT anyone elses fault but their own... And the GUTLESS media will NEVER say what needs to be said.....

Was the safest for everyone around. These officers risked their lives to take down an armed, resisting suspect.

wish you knew even just a little bit about law enforcement. You would be editing everything you have written in this thread.
Thanks for correcting me with the proper protocol in this situation. I find it comical how many of you want to bash without offering up the correct decision.
