I really like the new bridge up towards Zachary and Saint Francisville.
Agree. Well designed bridge and also very attractive.

The Sunshine Bridge has always been my biggest fear. Mainly cause it has been under construction for 20 out of the 23 years of my life which makes me think something is wrong with it

Why do they need bridges that high there?
Are there really big ocean going ships in that channel?
actually that's what i've heard. a few years ago they were talking about proposed replacements and there was big drama b/c most of the suggestions weren't tall enough for this one type of ship that service a minority-owned something and it was a mess so they tabled the discussion again

The 210 bridge is needed that high. Ships in and out of there every day.
The I-10 bridge was built to allow warships to come in and out of that area (I don't know why or where they would be going up the Calcasieu) but after it was built, they scraped plans for any ships going into the area and it was never needed to be that high.

I drive through Lake Chuck all the time... taking the loop if traffic dictates, never had an issue with the bridges.
If traffic is fricked in Beaumont I take the trip over the Rainbow Bridge or Veteran's Memorial Bridge through Port Arthur and over to Winnie... never had an issue there either.
The Beltway 8 bridge over the ship channel in Houston is pretty damn high as well with a slight curve.
The bridge that failed in Minneapolis killing a bunch of people wasn't high. At least not compared to all the ones listed above.

The British designed that.

There is some sort of navy ship docked off of N. Enterprise in the current Google Earth image. ( dated 1/24/2015)

Yeah, it's a "museum" now. Point was, the plans were to bring in much bigger ships into the area during or after the war. It just never happened.

I never knew that was there... not that I usually get off the interstate in Lake Chuck unless it's to get a Darrell's Special.

And very lightly used.

I literally drive over that bridge every day to bring my daughter to school.
I believe if I drove over it every day, my fear would decrease exponentially. Only driving over a bridge as steep and as narrow as that once or twice a year is what brings on the anxiety.

If it collapses and I'm on it, it's just my time
Fear that this bridge will collapse isn't why I get nervous. I feel like it was built extremely well in terms of durability, it just wasn't designed very well in terms of margin for error. It's narrowness and steep incline reduces that margin for error. If some idiot drives into my lane while I'm in it, I've got two options, and both likely result in a fatality.
I am able to fight the anxiety during dry conditions, but wet weather conditions? There is just too much that could go wrong. I could lose traction and slam into a concrete barrier. Another car could lose traction and push me into a concrete barrier.
I only feel this anxiety on the incline. The decline? I feel perfectly fine. It's kind of fun, actually.

I'm not scared of them but I've been caught in terrible traffic at the i-10 bridge nearly every time I go to Houston. Almost always a wreck

Always check ahead. Always.
I do this for Lake Charles, Beaumont, and the BR bridge. Every time I go back and forth.

I have ridden motorcycles over most of the bridges in South La. It is just a bridge

I don't get the fear.
My duck hunting partner was on the I-10 in a 5 car pile up...he's not scared of that bridge. Neither am I.
My mom bounced a Plymouth Fury off the sides of the 210 bridge...she's not afraid of that bridge, neither am I.
I've been under the I-10 bridge and had chunks of concrete fall next to the boat.
I remember going to McNeese and a freighter hit the 210 bridge and lifted the concrete up...
What's the fear guys? I damn sure am more afraid of getting a Westlake speeding ticket than the 210 or I-10 bridge collapsing.

Take a picture when driving over it during wet conditions, then you can talk sh*t.
